Official 2021 Bowl Games Thread

A pick six in a game where Alabama put the game on his shoulders. That’s my point: he can’t play the game manager role! Michigan and Alabama have night and day offenses.

Look, if it comes down to Bennett having to win the game for UGA then I agree they will lose. But this Georgia team is clearly built on defense and a solid running game and if they're going to beat Alabama they will win on those 2 aspects.

Sadly we decided not to go to the NC game due omicron. My wife, the UGA alum saw the lack of masking outdoors in Miami and did not feel Indy would be any better. Canceled plane and hotel, had not bought game tickets yet
To be fair, she didn’t expect much regarding masks but does not feel it will go well in indy

Look, you keep making my point. Alabama has the best offense in the country. They will key on stopping UGA’s run game. They are going to force Bennett to win the game.

My point the entire time is that he’s not good enough to do that. You agree? LOL

If any team in the country potentially could beat Alabama it would be Georgia. They are the only team that doesn't have the talent disparity at almost all positions but Bama is better at some key positions.

Not saying that I would pick Georgia to win but if they can force some turnovers, break a couple of big plays on offense, and not give away points they have a decent chance.

OK I agree that if UGA is absolutely forced to throw the ball with Bennett then they are in trouble. But I think the UGA defense and OL will play much better in this game and the Dawgs will be able to run the ball enough.

If Bama blows out UGA (very likely), then college football will have officially jumped the shark for me.

I mean, it's the same **** year after year. Different player names, same results.

The CFP has destroyed college football, and the Wild West approach to NIL and college football free agency is going to make sure it stays destroyed.

I guess. In the BCS era, we would’ve seen Alabama and Michigan square off to see Alabama humiliate the Wolverines. We live in a world where some states/schools care more about winning football games than almost anything else. Players were and are getting paid. Haves had way more than have nots and still do.

We are watching the greatest college football coach doing work year after year. He tames all of the egos of his staff members and the players in his locker room. He and his coaching team have checkmate their opponents before the most of the games even start. They see the finished product of the player better than anybody.

Is it fair? Nothing is fair. Is it right? There’s no morality in the world of wins and losses.

My issue is not Saban. He is who he is and in a lot of ways, you're right - Alabama would be dominating no matter what.

But what today proved to me is that there's no chance at diversifying the college football landscape to wider than the regular cast of characters. If Clemson truly drops off, there's no one replacing them. Ohio State has the ability to come back, but Michigan and Penn State aren't joining the club.

The pie is getting smaller and smaller.

The college football landscape could be diversified, expanded, and leveled but even with that certain schools would dominate, in or out of the rules.

They aren't going to do it though because right now those schools at the top of the pile drive the TV money and the TV money drives the whole game. Far to many schools would rather accept permanent second class status than risk losing the tens of millions that the system feeds them each year.

It’s just about devotion and money. Football is a regional sport because some states’ high schools and universities care more about it than most other things. Teams can compete quickly if they want to spend the money on coaches and recruiting good players. Cinci was a body bag team in the early 2000s. Now they have a respectable program with a playoff appearance.

The issue is that public funding for higher education is dwindling, so there are constant fights about the money sports teams get relative to academic departments in most schools. Schools like LSU have chosen football over academics while they let classrooms get dilapidated and build state of the art athletics facilities. COVID has only worsened these issues.

I admit I'm one of the first to make fun of the G5 but at the same time I admit there is not a clear delineation between G5 and P5 because in any given season there are a number of G5 teams which are better then the bottom 15-20 teams in the P5.

Cincy played well defensively against Bryce Young and it appears their focus was on him but Alabama pretty much ran at will against them. Cincinatti definitely kept it respectable but it also never felt like Alabama was in danger of losing this game.
They were never in danger, it showed pretty quickly. They couldn't do jack **** on O. They got their ass whipped up front on both sides of the ball, period.

But there were never, ever in trouble. Nick was nice with some FG attempts
Yep, they could've blown them the **** out had they wanted to. Cincy had a great year, but they don't have NFL players all over the field.

I wasn't giving the games focused viewing yesterday and may have missed it, but it didn't look like Smart had an assistant yanking the HC by the pants to keep him off the field. Did Smart get some feedback on that behavior since the last UGA/UA CFP game? That 2018 MNC game was kinda ridiculous with the dude routinely yanking Smart by the waistline.

Unless the rest of the country can start growing defensive linemen like they do in the southeast, the national championship trophy is going to stay in the southeast for a very long time.

Totally agree…almost. For me Bama is SAME player, different name (except QB).
