Official Bowl Season Thread

I think he puts his defense in bad spots too often when he starts playing fast. OU had zero shot in any scenario, but especially a shootout.

To your point, the size differential between LSU's offense and OU's defense was staggering.
REally just showed the difference between good recruiting and elite recruiting, and just shows people why usc is such a good job. That is the only school in the conference that can recruit players to beat those teams

Except under Helton who produced the 83rd ranked recruiting class this year.

The semis made it clear just how far away our Buffs are. The explosiveness/violence/athleticism around the line of scrimmage is amazing with the top teams. Then the playmaking ability of the special skill players on the field to flip the script on plays is ridiculous. This year especially.

Alex Grinch’s career arc taking a big hit of late. Essentially forced out by Day at Ohio State last year, moves on to OU, where his D keeps getting torched.

That's a project

Is it? Disclaimer: I have not looked at OU’s roster on defense. How hard can it be to build a decent defense? Their last 4 classes (17-20) have been 10,6,9 and 8th overall. Where is the talent they have been recruiting? I don’t buy all these guys they’ve recruited can’t play cohesive defense.

You can’t stop a team from scoring 63 points on you?? Georgia Southern gave up less points to LSU! Mississippi state only lost 36-13 and they finished 6-6. It’s a damn joke and that’s embarrassing for OU, especially with the quality of players they recruit.

They're weak in the trenches and have no depth in the secondary. They have recruited exceptionally well on offense to boost their overall rankings.

Seems odd for blue blood college programs to not be stacked everywhere. There's no salary cap so they don't have to pick and choose where they allocate resources, and money for good recruiting assistants on both sides of the ball isn't an issue. There should really never be an excuse for a program like OU to not have at least a competent defense to go with an elite offense.

Ah, okay that makes sense, my initial comment was admittedly ignorant. But as Scheckler said, it’s a little baffling they can’t stack a team considering who they are.

We know that fanbase a bit here having been in the same league with them for decades-theres a little bit of Fusker in them. When do they get to the point where they get tired of getting beat by SEC teams in semifinals?

You are what you emphasize. At least, that's what it looks like.

I went back and looked. They should be much better in the secondary because it is a bunch of blue chips back there since 2015. But their DL recruiting is rough. They have had three true 4* DTs signed since 2015 and one of those players is a JUCO this season and the other was a prep school player from Canada. No wonder they look so outsized on Saturday. They have signed a ****load of high school DEs and tried to bulk them up.

After Venables left, their defensive recruiting philosophy got exponentially worse. It shows now.
