Official CU vs Utah game thread

People rush fields, show me a game they don't. I dont have a problem with it. The fine is kinda dumb.

I generally feel that rushing the field should be for upsets and dramatic wins in big games. Hopefully CU gets back to the point of consistently being in the top 10, but to cap off this magical season, and celebrate with one of my favorite senior classes of all time, as well as allow loyal CU fans a chance to celebrate - warranted.

Yes, the fine is stupid though... ...

SIAP, but what was up with the game plan on offense? Baffling. Lindsay gets 12 touches the whole game, and 3 of those were in the final drive to close out the victory? Second and one, and your battered QB attempts a sweep to the edge only to lose yardage?

Erratic, frequently couldn't get out of their own way, ugly....were fitting descriptions I heard post-game. It was so bad, at times, it took the air out of the section I was sitting in for extended periods of the game.

Sefo explained after the game that Utah had loaded the box to stuff the run so they had to look to their receivers to make plays. Shay and George were a couple of catches away from making that look like a very solid offensive plan.

really really was unhappy with our coordinators in that game. Gave up on the run. Let Utah dictate our play calls even when we were trying to kill clock. Should have lined up tight and gone after them much earlier in the 2d half.

i get the stack the box thing....and maybe we wouldn't have run it "effectively" but to become one-dimensional is another kettle of fish altogether. even if they are stuffing the run...you got to make them try and commit the people to it. after they figured out the Sefo run package....we turned into Texas Tech for the 3rd quarter (which, for that reason and others, was a very badly played one for the Buffs).

the announcers said we went 3 drives without a running play. that's just not us.

utes stacked the box to stop the run bigtime....we needed to pass the football....we had open throws all game long but had a combination of drops and then a few balls sefo would want back

I'm thinking of about two flagrantly offensive drops, a couple underthrows, and one overthrow that killed momentum and took points off the board. Still, Lindgren choosing to go entirely in that direction was head scratching and despite saying it works because just look at our record I think having BL in that role needs to be examined this offseason. The defense is having a 2015 Broncos-like year, one we may never see again at CU, but we could have won some games by much larger margins if the O could get them some insurance and not taken years off our collective lives.

Hmm. First possession: 1st down pass, 2nd down pass, 3rd down run 6yds first down (next play Liufau fumble) Second possession: 1st down pass, 2nd down pass, 3rd down pass, 4th down punt returned for TD. Third possession: 1st down pass, 2nd down pass attempt but sacked, 3rd down run 5yds, 4th down punt.

The following drive was the touchdown drive that featured a mix of 7yd and 12yd runs and the long pass to Ross. It seems they outsmarted themselves into thinking they had to pass but the first quarter suggests otherwise.

Liked your post until you said we should demote BL from playcalling. He got too smart in this game and didn't trust his OL to just win their matchups. But to want to get rid of him completely (which is what your proposal amounts to) is nuts to me.

I could get on board with that sentiment if we hadn't rushed the field in the prior two wins and been heavily fined for it. Even then, you don't rush the field when you're a TD plus favorite at home. Stupid.

Great atmosphere at Folsom. my first CU game was 2013 Oregon, when they burned Sefo's redshirt. I've been to most home games since then, and watching Folsom come alive over that time has been awesome.

Special congrats to CU alumni, especially those of you who were in school during the worst years -- I'm really happy for y'all.

Pac-12 South Division Champion Colorado Buffaloes. Fvck yeah.

Now, a division championship is a great thing to celebrate, for about one week.

Running the ball is a mindset. You run early to run late, so when you do not bother to run much in the first three quarters, of course it will not be there in the fourth.

Asking this OL to protect Sefo on 44 passes (season high!) is just not good.

I agree. But how about the job by the OL and Lindsay on that last series to get a 1st down on the ground when Utah had 3 timeouts and was stacking the box? That's not something that CU has been able to do in a long ass time. One of the most impressive things I've seen all night.

No doubt.

Makes the rest of the game look so strange. There were a few times we got good gains (5+) on first down runs and then would pass from there or go with exotic run plays. Line it up and wear the other team down.

Really felt to me like they were trying to give Sefo a big senior night early on instead of running the offense the most effective way.

The narrative that CU couldn't run because Utah wouldn't allow it is mostly false. CU first qtr: 4.4yds per rush. Season avg: 4.2yds per rush.

CU had a mindset that 8 in the box somehow automatically meant they couldn't run. That strategy worked against them as the game wore on.

A little off topic but I want to vent.

I normally don't watch pac 12 network for my football replays and breakdown but I decided to try it today. Mistake.

Yam asked the two guys (Lincoln Kennedy and some other dude) who should be pac coach of the year. Sort of a rhetorical question as he knows who it should be.

LK - Clay Helton
Other dude - Petersen

Yam then says Mac should be pac coach of the year and should be the national COY.

I turned the channel immediately and won't be back.

One thing they couldn't use on Utah that they could with everyone else coming into Folsom was the altitude. I wonder if that had anything to do with the game plan. Why not running Lindsay more and Sefo less, but I trust in the Buff football knowledge more than I have behind my keyboard.

The play that sticks out in my mind and is planted in my craw was after we, Lindsay I think, picked up 9 on first down and on the next play Sefo ran some sort of an abomination to his right and got stuffed for a 2 yard loss. We proceeded to not pick up the third down and had to punt. I was like, "WTF?!"

I will say, the last two games I've had a bad experience with out of the closet fair weather newbie fans. Last night lead to an "F" bomb exchange between my son (dad not proud) and a prima donna bitch who arrived at the end of the first quarter. How do people show up late for a HUGE 5:30 game?
