Other Games Thread September 1-4 (warning, big weekend, it's a long one)

I recall being ridiculed in my FCS Spring 2021 thread when I said that there could be a rash of FCS upsets over the FBS after Sam Houston State was crowned FCS champs. Just look at what happened today and even UNI played Iowa State tough. Ditto for Missouri State at Oklahoma State.

It looks like there might be as much FCS upsets over FBS teams next week. Check back with Mtn's week two games thread.

Given the $ec's recent run of dominance, I find it interesting that the 1st dent in the $ec armor, courtesy of the 12pac, comes at the hands of fucla.

And not u$c.

Gotta add a little spice to the banter betwixt those 2 fanbases.

Other than UCLA this seems like a fairly disastrous opening weekend for the P12.

South went 5-1, with the only loss being Arizona (which was expected), even with sluggish coming to mind in most of the wins. Wilner had a good point-maybe this is the sign of a shift in the power balance to the south?

FWIW, putting it here:

"Sam Noyer struggled in his Oregon State debut. The transfer from Colorado was pulled in the third quarter and his replacement, Chance Nolan, led the Beavers to two fourth-quarter scores to twice cut the deficit to two"

It's trending that way for sure. I think CSU really lost a lot of respect after that soccer stunt they pulled on CU. I lost the desire to support CSU outside of CU and I'm going full steam ahead with UNC plus having their games on ESPN+ is going to help that out. I will most likely watch more UNC athletic contests going forward. I used to go to the old Lab school when it was at what is now Bishop-Lehr hall. The Lab school has become a charter school since it was closed down. That's my connection to Greeley and UNC.

Wyoming fans are good at supporting their team and I have seen talk about Wyoming fans saying they would continue to support their team even if they dropped to FCS. I think UW fans are moving away from the Denver area to the Ft. Collins area due to where this state has gone politically so as a result, UW isn't on the map in CO like they used to.

Just my two cents.
Pardon my ignorance, but what soccer stunt did CSU pull on CU?

Cu was up 3-0 in the 2nd half when the game went into a lengthy weather delay and CSU refused to agree to a restart time triggering and exploiting an ultra rare NCAA rule to get the game cancelled and declared a no contest. One of the most chicken **** things I've ever seen in sports.

Lame. Thanks.

The decline started well before Turley left.
Fair. I had my timing a bit mixed up… but Turley went there with Harbaugh in 2007. Was instrumental in helping build them into a winner (lots of stories about him evaluating recruits, especially big men, when they were building it into a winner). Losing the attitude that Harbaugh brought to the program, was a step back IMO, but they were still consistently winning, and had a few really good years. I personally don’t think it’s a coincidence that they went 4-8 the season immediately following Turley’s firing.

Didn't their coach say something we're losing so we're not going to play?

Dump them from future schedules since they obviously don’t have any integrity. They can find other opponents willing to prop them up in collegiate competition.

Just imagine if CU football was winning big against CSU when the game had to be halted somewhere in the 3Q due to weather. CSU's coaches manage to find a way to not come out to finish the game because they were getting their asses kicked and it ends up as a no contest. If CU goes on to have a season to remember and is in contention for the CFP and this is something that could keep CU out of the CFP.

I know it's freaking women's soccer but all that needed to happen was 20 more minutes to make the game official and CSU found a way to not let a beat down count in the books that could affect CU soccer's NCAA tourney chances.

And some of you are concerned about us because we played like ass and still won by 28? Spare me the Montana is better than UNC bull****-there's zero excuse for losing to an FCS team and the second best team preseason in this conference might just do that.
Remember Montana State? I do unfortunately.
