Other Games Thread September 1-4 (warning, big weekend, it's a long one)

Not a good weekend for the ACC.

Their flagship program Clemson lost, their other ranked programs also lost with Carolina losing to VT and Miami losing as expected to Bama. They also saw Georgia Tech lose to a MAC school and Duke lose to an FCS team. They still have Florida State playing Notre Dame Sunday but it would be a big surprise if FSU wins that one.

Duke lost to a C-USA team not an FCS team. But yea it was a bad weekend for the conference as a whole, with 2 games still pending

What do you think of Florida State, Carolina? I went over on the Noles so I'm curious to see what they look (even if I have to mute Joe Tessitore's obnoxious ass tonight)

You are right Charlotte is C-USA but not exactly a powerhouse.

ACC could salvage a lot from the weekend though if FSU upsets ND or Louisville beats Ol Miss. Even though the line is bigger I think the second is more likely than the first. FSU isn't what they used to be and I think that Ol Miss is getting a boost because well you know, SEC.

This weekend may also say, and Hokie would love it to be so, that VT is better than expected and rising again. That is a program that gets overlooked sometimes when people think about potential powerhouses but they have the support and they aren't far away from some massive talent bases.

Admittedly a bit of a biased pick but I took FSU +7.5 and I think they win outright. It's a big wildcard but if Milton can return even close to his former self that can make a huge difference, although FSU won't name a starter until kickoff and reportedly Jordan Travis has had a great fall camp. But I'd be very surprised is Milton isn't the starter. ND lost alot except for their 2 stars Williams at RB and Kyle Hamilton on defense, and Coan isn't anything special. Add in the Bowden emotional factor and you have the makings for an upset here.

I hate the UW Huskies. Am extremely happy to see them suffer their worst loss ever. Coach Pete's 'successor' is pretty clearly a dud. May UW lose every game for a decade or so. How's that for conference solidarity? Most arrogant POS fans in the PAC ... UW. Otherwise go Buffs and Utes ... and wow UCLA - where did that come from?

I like it when UW sucks, it's just that I prefer if they win their out-of-conference games.

Their fans - at least the sort that visit other team's internet sites - are certainly interesting. It makes it easy to root against them.

Interesting and massively suffering from amnesia.

My own amnesia? Probably. Help me understand.

You said the UW fans “are certainly interesting” and I added that in my opinion they also have issues with a selective memory (best case) or are suffering from a severe form of amnesia (worst case).

Tied with ASU fans I think, but equally glad to see them brought back to Earth. Not sure where the ASU arrogance comes form either.

Now I understand, and I concur.

I feel like we're going to need a separate thread for non-FBS this year.

In the past, the tidbits Mtn included were mostly just some local flavor and weren't a distraction. But if I assume most of you are like me and don't watch a non-FBS game all year other than maybe a playoff if there isn't a bowl game on, then like me you're finding a lot in this thread that you aren't interested in at all.

The decline started well before Turley left.

Not really. At least not according to their record. He was fired in April 2019 and from 2016-2018 they won 10, 9, and 9 games. Historically, that's stellar for Stanford football. However, in 2019, they went 4-8. So draw your own conclusions.

In 2015, they were a legitimate playoff contender.
