Other games weekend of 8/31-9/3

Touchdown Maryland! 14-7 Terps.

Almost an unsportsmanlike conduct on the TD. WR slowed down while looking back as he ran it in. Announcers seemed to think that it would have wiped out the TD if they hadn't picked the flag up. If that's correct, I hate that rule. Don't take the touchdown away. Should be 15 yards the other team can take on the XP or kickoff along with the player who did it getting a warning (like a yellow card in soccer) with him getting booted if gets flagged again for unsportsmanlike.
What the player did was right on the edge, and I think the refs got it right.

To me the line is when you're playing to the crowd. If your taunting is playing to the crowd, you crossed the line. The MD player didn't play to the crowd, but he sure as hell was making sure the UT player knew he had been beat.

I.e. He was just subtle enough to not be called. Barely.

He is probably going to get an earful from the coaches in film because some other refs would have called him on that.

It looked a couple times like he almost raised a finger or pointed the ball, either on of which would have put him over the edge.

The preseason hype on Texas really confused me.

Some schools will always get attention, usually positive, simply because they have large fan bases that will add to readership or viewership to see something good about their teams.

Texas is one of these. Even in years that they aren't good we tend to see positive attention on schools like Notre Dame and Michigan as well as others for this reason.

The media, especially ESPN wants Texas to be good.

A ref did call him on it. The flag was picked up.

He was literally right on the bleeding edge of the rule. But on the right side. As you said, any hand gesture at all would have put him over.

Need to get rid of official preseason polls. It rewards teams before they accomplish anything. Case in point Texas

Also, UT fans still aren't recognizing the dumpster fire their program was in.

Herman is a good coach - he needs a legit 3-4 years to turn this **** show around.

Maryland just went up 24-7. Hahaha
I fully expected to see this score, only with the teams reversed.

Texas has a bunch of high end recruits but Maryland is much better prepared and their attitude is way better.

Your earlier post about Hermann may be more applicable than anyone would have thought. This is embarrassing for Texas, their boosters aren't going to put up with many more games like this one.

It's completely routine for a ball carrier to look back while running, they want to know where the defenders are. I didn't see anything "taunty" in that play. Unlike this one, which of course was not flagged:

Okay, I watched the wrong highlight. They should have called that.

Texas dominating by running simple basic stuff taking advantage of their advantages in talent.

Then they insist on running a trick play that puts them off schedule and the drive dies again.

Another case of coaches trying to be to smart for their own good.

Didn't he get to a Super Bowl with a garbage QB?

He did in kind of a fluky year, the high point of his career. He had a couple other good years with the bears along with a bunch of less successful ones.

He isn't a "bad" coach, just solidly mediocre. If you are happy with a few good season mixed in with the average he is fine but I wouldn't want him.
