Recruiting News - Olympic Sports

Per topdrawersoccer (https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/col...lorado/clgid-205/tab-commitments#sectionblock. I also got confirmation from the below post on her club's Facebook acct.), soccer has picked up its 2nd 2023 verbal commitment in forward Claire Curran, who looks to attend Cathedral Catholic HS in San Diego, while also playing club ball with the San Diego Surf program.

Welcome and congrats to her!

Some links for her:

Looks like her (guessing twin?) sister Faith also committed. Both look to attend Boulder Creek HS in Anthem, Arizona, and play for the Utah Royals FC (of Arizona) in Tempe. Both also look to be 2023 class commitments. (In addition to the tweets from their club team, I also saw that both instagrammed about their commitments.)

Welcome and congrats to both!

I can't find much on Faith (there's no topdrawersoccer page for her right now), although per HUDL (see link below) looks like she's a defender/ midfielder.

Her sister Hope is a forward, and per the topdrawersoccer page linked to below is currently the #34 ranked recruit in her class overall, and #9 at her position.

I performed a few quick social media and Google searches, and looked at my usual most dependable source (Rich Kern), and haven't identified who yet, but per the below looks like volleyball has received another (I believe its 2nd?) 2023 verbal commit! (The name usually pops up within a week or so assuming it's a U.S. student-athlete.)

Quoting myself for convenience- per an Instagram post I found, looks like the newest volleyball Buff commit (class of 2023) may be 6'2" opposite (AKA right-side) hitter and middle blocker Lilly Dwinnell, who currently attends and plays for San Clemente HS in Southern California, as well as playing club ball with the T-Street program. (This is not confirmed by a 2nd source at this point )

Welcome and congrats to her!

A few things I could find for her:

A recruiting page (Just includes a little info on her (height, etc.)) - https://www.ncsasports.org/womens-v...lemente/san-clemente-high-school/lily-dwinell

Per https://prepvolleyball.com/articles...roster-for-ntdp-summer-training-series/431652 , she was one of 37 or so Under 18 players named by U.S. Volleyball to the "NTDP Summer Training Series" last month (it was scheduled to run from July 18th-23rd).

A couple highlights from her club team (both from 2020)-

Wait... Did this commit slip through the cracks?

wavevolleyball

BIG CONGRATS to Cayla Payne (17 Juliana) for committing to Colorado!! 🌊🌊🌊 #wavevb #wavenation

Per the wavevolleyball website: Player stats: 6'4" MH; 10' approach 2023 Graduate

Quick question for the board... Can we link instagram posts? Or is that too intrusive for future CU student athletes?

Aztec has but I haven't figured out how to do it.

I wouldn't do it if their account is set to private. You would have to check as some are and some are not. When I am on Instagram, I can't tell without checking.

Thanks for this!

Given that this commitment was a day or two earlier than the one for Ms. Dwinnell I noted in an earlier post, maybe it's Cayla Payne's commitment that Coach Mahoney tweeted about? Or, maybe his tweet was referring to 2 commitments at once? (The Payne Instagram post didn't come up in my searches.) In addition to playing with the Wave club program, she also attends and competes for Carlsbad HS in California.

Welcome and congrats to her!

A little more on Ms. Payne:
Her HS stats (With last season being so abbreviated (looks like her team didn't even supply stats that season to Maxpreps), it only shows her freshman year, where it looks like she was already a big contributor, playing in 108 of the team's 142 sets.) - https://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/cayla-payne/4euULLsAEemAzfp8ouYFiw/volleyball/stats.htm

Her high school team roster (For what it's worth, they list her at 6'2".) - https://scorebooklive.com/california/volleyball/teams/419496-carlsbad-lancers/players
______________________________________________________________________________

Also wanted to mention that Lily Dwinell and Ms. Payne may now be club teammates, as Wave VB also posted about the former's CU commitment yesterday-

(In my original post, I noted she played for the T-Street program as that was the only club I could find her being associated with, but maybe she recently switched over to Wave?)

Wanted to mention that lacrosse (and maybe softball for other schools?) has its own recruiting rules as to when recruiting may begin each year, and today is the 1st day Coach Elliott Whidden and company can contact prospective Class of 2023 Buffs.

Best wishes to the team!

Per the below (and also showing on topdrawersoccer), soccer has picked up another 2023 verbal commit (per topdrawersoccer and this thread its 4th for the class). this newest commit is midfielder (and per Maxpreps also a forward) Grace Thao, who looks to hail from Southern California, attending and playing for Santa Margarita High School (in Rancho Santa Margarita), while also playing club ball with West Coast FC. (3 of the 4 2023 commits to date are from So. Cal., with the other being from the Phoenix area.)

Welcome and congrats to her!

I'm guessing the below is Coach Mahoney's confirmation of Ms. Jordan's commit, who is a 6'3" outside hitter/ right-side hitter currently attending and playing for Ridge Point High School in Missouri City, Texas, as well as playing club ball with Houston Juniors.

Welcome and congrats to her!!!

A few more things I could find on her:

A recruiting page that includes some highlight videos (the latest is from March 2020) - https://sportsrecruits.com/athlete/sydney_jordan

Lacrosse (which as I mentioned back in post #612 could start formally recruiting 2023 freshmen on September 1st) looks to have its 1st commitment (at least that I know of) for that class; it is midfielder Averi Gardner, who attends and competes for Evergreen HS (Colorado), as well as playing for the Team 180 Sports club program.

Welcome and congrats to her!

Maxpreps HS stats - https://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/averi-gardner/Y0XPk-aUzEWb4gRjDKtmyQ/girls-lacrosse/stats.htm
(Already led her team in scoring (over 5.5 points/game) as a sophomore while helping them to a 4A state championship.)

Per topdrawersoccer (and a tweet I saw from a parent (???)), soccer has received its 4th 5th commitment for the frosh class of 2023 in defender Angelina Moschetti, who currently attends and plays for Santa Margarita High School, Rancho Santa Margarita, California, and also plays with the Slammers FC (club).

Welcome and congrats to her!

think her dad was Mike Mochetti the former CU QB. Think he used to coach at that high school

For what it's worth, it was a Kevin Moschetti whose tweet I saw noting her Buff commitment. (Not the most common name, and looks like they're both in So. California, so maybe a relation (brother or ???)?)

could be, but I remember Mike was a coach out there and I think that was the high school. It would be funny if it was no relation

Of course, assume he could have coached other places earlier, but it looks like (at least per quick Google search) Mike is currently the coach at La Mirada HS, which per Maps looks to be in eastern L.A. County, and around 35-40 miles northwest of where the newest Buff commit goes, which looks to be in Southeastern Orange County.

Bauldie Moschetti (deceased) was a long time coach of the Boulder Collegians baseball teams. He was also infamous for owning Baseline Liquor Store.

Bauldie died in 1994 and had a son, Gary, living in Louisville at that time. Obit says he had grandchildren but did not list names.

Per the below, we have the 1st track and field and cross country teams' commitment I've found for the freshman class of 2022. It is middle distance/ distance runner Wilson Georges, who looks to be competing for and attending Limestone High School in Bartonville Illinois (looks to be right outside Peoria).

Welcome and congrats to him!!!

We heard of our 1st male CU track and field athlete commit for 2022 a couple days ago (See post #623), and now it looks like we have the 1st on the women's side- sprinter/ hurdler/ long jumper and multi-eventer Eva Bruce, who per the interview in the link below plans to, athletically, be concentrating on the multi-events (indoor pentathlon and outdoor heptathlon) at CU. (Although most multi-eventers will also of course compete in individual events much of the season to improve in them and help the team out.) She currently competes for and attends Sagino HS in Tuscon, AZ.

Welcome and congrats to her!

There are 4 new commitments I wanted to note in this thread. Since they're all in different sports, and for 3 different classes, I'll probably just use separate posts for each.
(That 4 does NOT include quite a few more I also plan to add today based on skiing and track and field having added freshmen to their 2021/22 rosters.)

1st off is a catch-up type of post. As I mentioned in the regular season tennis thread (https://www.allbuffs.com/threads/20...as-vegas-from-weds-10-13-sunday-10-17.148796/), a new name (at least to me) popped up in the reporting for the team's most recent tourney***, and it was a current year (2021) freshman not yet noted in this thread. She is Mila Stanojevic, who looks to be from Germany. (Unfortunately there is no info on her CU roster page yet, and via a basic Google search I couldn't find out even basic info like what her hometown is in Germany.)

(***In that most recent tourney (that ended a couple weekends ago), she had a nice start to her Buff career, winning the B (Second) flight of the ITA Mountain Regionals in Las Vegas. (Article on that - https://cubuffs.com/news/2021/10/16/tennis-stanojevic-wins-ita-regionals-second-flight.aspx))

Official welcome and congrats to her!!!

What little info I could find on her:

CU Roster page (just her photo right now) - https://cubuffs.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/mila-stanojevic/15602

A few pages for her tennis career (a few results, rankings, etc.):

Next up, per one of my main sources for commitments for the sport (https://www.milesplit.com/signings?year=2022&sortBy=college&collegeSearch=university+of+colo), the men's track and field and cross country teams picked up their 2nd 2022 commitment in distance/ middle distance runner Connor Williams, who attends and competes for Crested Butte Community School in the Colorado town of the same name.

Welcome and congrats to him!!!

Per the below tweet, lacrosse received its 2nd 2023 commit (I've heard of). She is attacker Jaimey Hill, who attends and competes at West Islip High School (West Islip, New York), as well as playing with the LI Legacy Lacrosse club program.

Welcome and congrats to her!!!

As I'd mentioned a few posts ago, the ski team updated its roster for the coming season and, as usual, skiing is the one sport where I never seem to hear about ANY of the Buffs ahead of time. Therefore, the below list (an extract of the full roster) of frosh Buffs on the team this season is the 1st time I believe any of them (other than Katie Fleckenstein***) have been noted in this thread as Buffs.
(***Ms. Fleckenstein, the younger sister of Buff star Stef, was also a freshman last season, but missed all competition due to injury.)

Of course, anyone interested in any of the skiers can access their detail roster page, which can be found by clicking on their link at the full roster @ https://cubuffs.com/sports/skiing/roster/2022?&sort=class , or by clicking their names below .

Official welcome and congrats to all!!!
