Texas State Game Week (Official Thread)

holy ****, javier edwards with some damning thoughts on CSU's OL: "some of the JUCO teams we played were better"

He should be quiet. He played terrible. I rewatched the game yesterday and he was being pushed back 5 yards routinely. Tuilomoa played better and held the point much better than Edwards. He leans backwards like he's taking a dump at the line of scrimmage and then plays high after the snap. The best stop he had was when a LB pushed him forward, after him getting shoved backwards, and he knocked someone over by mistake. He should worry about himself and not be making comments when he was a liability.

Made me lower my expectations this year after seeing him being driven backwards so often. He's not even close to what we had last year in Tupou. Hope that changes really fast.

Bobcat alum. here. Making trip from San Antonio mostly for the tailgating, brownies and mountains. Someone said "they have a nice campus so they have that going for them"... He nailed it. We're worse than I expected. I do like out coach and hope he's successful over the next few years. Our QB is nothing special. I expected more coming from the SEC and he appeared awfully slow in game one.

Anyways, if I need to move this thread I will. But, any recommendations on tailgating? Our Univeristy will have an alumni tent set up, but will more than likely be lame and I like tailgating amongst the locals. Also, any suggestions on places to go post game? Open to all suggestions.
You're more than welcome to join our tailgate. We set up next to Baker Hall, near the Farrand bandshell. You'll have to park off campus and walk in.

Bobcat fan here. I will be making the trip this weekend. I have lots of friends and family in the Denver area so I was pretty excited when this game got set up. Unfortunately, we've gotten much worse since then and y'all have gotten much better. A little about our team. Fran was our coach until two years ago. He did okay but lost the team and went 3-9 his last year after going 7-5 the previous year. We then hired Coach Withers from James Madison. He is like a poor mans Charlie Strong in the sense that he is all about accountability and will kick you off the team or suspend you if you don't follow his rules. A lot of upper classmen felt alienated and quit the team. This team is very very young. Something like 5 seniors and 9 juniors on the two deep. Last year we went 2-10. I don't expect many more wins this year since the team is still most true and redshirt freshmen. We currently only have 76 players on scholarship due to players quitting and getting kicked off. I hope we at least score and maybe keep it semi respectable for a quarter or a half. Good luck Saturday and maybe we can set up another game in the future when we get back to full strength.

Our strength is probably our LBs. The defense started poorly against HBU but didn't give up any points after the first quarter. Not sure how much the offense will do but I think they can improve if the QB finds his accuracy and we get the TEs more involved.
The Buffs are sort of a model of suffering while young players gain experience. Been there. Done that. Keep the faith.

Edwards does his job when he eats up 2 or 3 blockers. He did that all night. Would love to see more pressure from him, but a NT that size doesn't necessarily have to.

Yeah, if Edwards is getting pushed back by two guys, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
That will clean up at least 1 lane for a LB to come down hill. Keep those guys clean and let their speed do that job. That is what NT's built like Javier excel at.

I need to rewatch the game. Ideally, edwards takes up 2 blocks and doesn't move. Getting blown backwards isn't good.
I didn't see a whole lot of him getting blown backwards. Saw some of him getting stood up at the line though when they would hit him with a double team. Have to keep in mind that CSU's center is one of the top centers in the country.

Big Sexy will keep improving. This week he should be extra motivated since he originally committed to Texas State out of high school.

That senior TE Doesn't bode well for us. Certainly does not matter that the rest of the line is freshman. All they have to do is drag him just in front of the LB's and we will have trouble.

I kid...sorta

I hope our guys come ready to play. This team needs major improvement before the Washington game. They need to take these next two games very seriously.

You should rewatch the game. He was routinely getting pushed back far into our defensive backfield. He wasn't holding the line nor taking up two blockers like we saw from Tupou last year.

I don't want to single out a player but I have zero patience for trash talkers, especially when they were getting dominated at the line of scrimmage. Just shut up and do your job.

Just watch CSU's first offensive series if you want to see it. It was not good, especially with PAC 12 O-lines coming up soon. Hoping it was first game jitters.

I noticed that he was being driven back a few yards early on, but most of the time it was because he was being doubled. I definitely wasn't impressed by any stretch, but this was his first FBS game. It's going to take some time for both him and Mulumba to get used to the speed/size/athleticism of even the G5 programs.

@bigskybuff did you actually listen to the interview? All he said was that in his JUCO conference he went up against some of the top OL JC prospects in the nation. He said CSU's OL did not impress/surprise from a talent perspective, because he has faced that before.

He shouldn't have talked, but the numbers speak for themselves-88 yards rushing is impressive.
College football counts negative yardage from sacks into the rushing yardage total, so they took -13 yards from Stevens. Their actual run game generated 101 yards on 28 carries (3.6/carry). Still pretty impressive, especially when you consider 24 yards of that came on 1 carry from Boddie late in the game. Take that away and it's 77 yards on 27 carries (3.2/carry).
