The 2021-2022 Coaching Carousel

I remember when Lake was on CU’s long list with Tucker. Got to give RG credit for dodging that bullet. Agree he’d be a great DC for us, but there’s not enough room for his ego.

I look at a guy like Lake and wonder if he just made a bad OC hire. That's obviously a big part of the job, but some good head coaches have made big mistakes in that way.

When we were looking at Lake, I questioned if he ever had been the real DC there at UW given Kwiatkowski was always on staff and had been Pete's DC for years.

I really wanted Lake here, but he has been pretty bad at Washington. The recruiting should be miles better considering his pedigree.

Lake checked a lot of the boxes, which points to the fact that it’s still somewhat of a crapshoot unless they are one of a half dozen proven top tier coaches. Hell, Mullen is kind of an ass, but I never thought he’d ever be this bad at Florida. On paper, that seemed like a good hire.

They could have done better.

As has been proven by my judgment in the past, I'm not a great predictor of who will be a successful HC. Let's just say I'm skeptical that this guy will be successful at TT given:

  1. He's coached for 5 seasons in college and never as a coordinator.
  2. Is a holdover from the Rhule staff- Rhule did not take him to Carolina, and Baylor hired outside of the program instead of promoting this guy
  3. 5 seasons ago had never coached outside of HS.
  4. Is almost 50 and goes by the name "Joey"
