Chip winding back up at Oregon would be pretty hilarious. Still can't believe he left when he did
As I said, the OU coaching search will be a hoot.Fake news.
CORRECTION: Georgia DC Dan Lanning in the Mix, but No OU Coaching Decision Yet

EDITOR'S NOTE: Earlier Saturday night, SI Sooners inadvertently published a story reporting that Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning was being hired as the next head football coach at the University of Oklahoma. As of 8:30 p.m. Saturday night, Oklahoma has not named its new head coach. SI Sooners regrets the error.
Their 247 board says Swinney to OU (Venables would probably come with him) is more than "mere message board fabrication". Whatever that means. Might be a correlation between that and Clemson's AD looking like he's going to Miami.
ESPN now says Venables.
He could have been hired a week ago. They clearly had some coaches tell them “no” before OU capitulated and hired BV before the whole tram hit the portal.

Whatever. OU got better-especially if Jeff Lebby goes there as OC. They'll be good offensively still, and they won't be anywhere near as bad as they were under Riley defensively.ESPN now says Venables.

They are also a program that should go more niche in an attempt to become relevant in their conference. Would be a solid hire for them, IMOI really hope this doesn't happen.
USC OC Graham Harrell emerges as option for Colorado State job
The odds suggest Graham Harrell will not get a head coaching job; he will have to be an OC one more time. Is Colorado State willing to gamble on him as a head coach?trojanswire.usatoday.com
OU lost a top 5 active CFB HC. Venables has everything to prove that he will even be successful, let alone elite.Whatever. OU got better-especially if Jeff Lebby goes there as OC. They'll be good offensively still, and they won't be anywhere near as bad as they were under Riley defensively.
I don't know if he's a HC. But, man, I think if it ends up being him with Lebby coming as OC they'll definitely have good schemes and coaching.I think Venables is going to flop at OU. Lazy hire IMO.

In the end, I bet they end up hiring Matt Lubick.Would be an interesting hire for them

What’s funny? Riley is a top 5 HC and Venables has never been a HC.Hahaha okay.
Cristobal to Miami.
I would say the conference also needs UCLA to be a 9-10 win team. If they are then the pac 12 dominates so cal and Phoenix recruiting. If Cristobal leaves for Miami, it's an opportunity for the Pac-12 to get better.
Whether we like it or not, the Pac-12's path to national respect is for both USC and Oregon to be dominant. It needs to be that if anyone else represents the South or North in the P12CG it means that they had a truly special season and got over on a great program to get there (like when Alabama or Ohio State are not representing their division in the conference championship game).
Frankly, if the Pac-12 was performing where it should be we'd have UCLA and Washington as Top 20 programs with CU, Utah, ASU and Stanford less consistent but right there with them more often than not. Programs like UA, Cal, OSU and Wazzu tend to go on a nice run every so often but have also been bad a lot.I would say the conference also needs UCLA to be a 9-10 win team. If they are then the pac 12 dominates so cal and Phoenix recruiting.
Your take is funny. As usual. Venables has been one of the elite ACs in the sport for close to two decades. He's a defensive guy-and OU wasn't good on that side of the ball under Riley. If they get Lebby from Ole Miss to pair with him, they're going to be fine. What’s funny? Riley is a top 5 HC and Venables has never been a HC.
