Not a big departure from how OU has hired their successful head coaches and the last coordinator they hired from the SEC worked out great for them in Stoops. OU is going to have to recruit harder than they ever have done.
This is what CU needs to do when they eventually replace Dorrell.
Clearly his mind was elsewhere before this announcement. Glad that he got it done so he can relax a bit and focus on his job.

I could see UCLA then going after someone like Fickell to try to keep pace with USC. Maybe Aranda if he hasn't renegotiated with Baylor yet.
UCLA has hired a guy from the NFL or with recent NFL experience the past four hires.
Maybe they’ll change their mind on KD and we’ll hire the weasel again.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Earlier Saturday night, SI Sooners inadvertently published a story reporting that Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning was being hired as the next head football coach at the University of Oklahoma. As of 8:30 p.m. Saturday night, Oklahoma has not named its new head coach. SI Sooners regrets the error.
Their 247 board says Swinney to OU (Venables would probably come with him) is more than "mere message board fabrication". Whatever that means. Might be a correlation between that and Clemson's AD looking like he's going to Miami.

Yeah they tried it with some guy named Stoops. That was a pretty good hire.
If they do go the NFL route, Doug Pederson would be a fit. Or they might look at EB since he's got ties.
I thought Stoops was an offensive guy. Didn't he bring the spread offense pass-first stuff to OU?
Stoops was a DC at UF under The Ol Ball Coach.

I don’t buy Chip back to Oregon. At. All.
I don’t know but Lane’s new contract is more than double what UCLA is paying Chip so I’m guessing he’s out of reach unless boosters there feel compelled to open the checkbooks to stay competitive in SoCal.

It really does mean more down there. Hafley's a hell of a coach and UCLA could definitely do worse if Chip leaves for a 2nd go-round at Oregon
