The 2021-2022 Coaching Carousel

The AJC report leaks early Saturday, then Feldman and others tweet countering it, and then we get the tweet announcing Lanning to Eugene Saturday afternoon. This is great news for the rest of the league, and here's why-

Oregon looks bad right now-The timing of the search makes sense what Canzano put out. They couldn't an alum who might have the toughest job in the Power 5 outside of Vanderbilt to take that gig-even with all those resources. Lanning's a hell of a candidate-but this is going to be used against him in a big way.
Cal looks bad because the rumors that around JW not being happy there are basically confirmed-his name got thrown around for our search in February 2020. I think we can chalk that up to Cal having less in terms of resources and more academic stuff than we do to deal with-which I'm sure he doesn't like. Fast forward to this year-Wilner tweeted a month or so ago saying he expected Wilcox to take the Washington job. He had to address UW's supposed interest in him. Now Canzano is saying he interviewed for the Oregon job. Why turn it down? Who the hell knows-probably comes to down a similar reason to the main one Riley was honest about when he got asked about why he left OU-he's at a place where he's got the opportunity to go down as the guy who turned USC around. Either way-If I'm Rick George and this team sputters at all coming out next year, I'm doing everything in my power to amass as much as I can to make a run at Wilcox. Damn good coach who has now shown he's open to listening to other jobs.
Not sure what’s more fantastic in your post - the idea that Wilcox would consider jumping to CU after turning down UW and OU or that RG would consider letting KD go when (not if) the Buffs sputter out of the gate next year.

So in the same sentence, if that's what that mangled garbage was, you think Canzano is both accurate about Wilcox turning the job down, Lanning not getting the job, and Wilcox going to UW? Oregon, a program with 4 rose bowl wins in 20 years by 4 different coaches is Vanderbilt level? How much dust did you inhale during your time at the school of mines?

OU hired one of the elite HC candidates in the country. Spinning it otherwise colors a person purple.

Wilcox does have a good agent/pr person to spin news for him and keep his name out there. Evident by everyone biting on everything reported.

Oregon probably called him to let him know that he had a great interview, but... Wilcox agent cuts the AD off and says, that's great, I was about to call you and let you know Justin is actually not longer interested, thanks for the opportunity.

You know, I wish MikMac well at FIU, but his first hire was Jay MacIntyre for his staff. Seriously, is nepotism required now in CFB? It is such a bad, chicken **** look to hire your kid when you have such a high profile position. Family hardware store, family accounting practice, sure, hire your kid. A highly paid state employee making sure he can ladle some state gravy to his kid? Bad optics.

Eh. Jay Mac was WRs coach at Southeastern University for a season before moving to UT-Martin where he was Passing Game Coordinator/Recruiting Coordinator/WRs coach for two seasons. It's not a good enough resume for a good program, but FIU is an utter garbage G5 program. This is a fairly natural career progression, IMO, although I understand the concern of optics.

Honestly, MM should have asked Chev to come be his WRs/RC

Daddy has been plowing the road ahead of his kid for years.

I don't think that is true. No different than any dad. Jay is a smart kid and he's proving himself at each level, starting at the bottom.

And his coaching budget is pretty close to NIL so having Jay around and living at home will keep him cheap!
