2020-2021 Bowl Games Thread

Maybe. Like I said, Fields was trying to spin off of him. Seems to me that if he doesn't spin, Skalski's shoulder goes into Fields' midsection, his head is on his right hip, and nothing is wrong with the tackle.

Whatever though. He's gone.
You should rewatch the play. He speared the dude’s kidney on purpose. Obvious dirty hit.

I dunno man - Fields was going to spin. I find it hard to believe that Skalski has the body control to actually spear Fields in the kidneys intentionally. Looked to me like an unfortunate hit.

By the rules, however, it was targeting. Which is why targeting is a ****ty rule.
Need to update it to Targeting 1 and Targeting 2. 1 is what we have now and you are out. 2 is 15 yards plus it counts towards the two unsportsmanlike penalties

I know the rule and the reason for it. And I've never seen it called on an open field tackle where the qb didn't slide.
Because most players know to keep their eyes up. There are very few crown of the helmet hits, but every one that I have seen in a game gets called either by the on field official or the replay crew.

i have no idea what to think about what will help at this point, especially as we sit in the p12.

take the p5 champs, 2 highest ranked p5 non-champs, and have a play between the 2 highest ranked g5 for the last spot?

or expand to 16 and take the conference champs from maybe 8 conferences and have the other 8 held for the highest ranked non-conf. champs?

what would fix this?
Go to 8. P5 Champs all get in along with 3 at large.

No dude - I have no bet on this game. I post all of my bets in the CFB Betting thread. It’s the rule. You may not like the rule, but it was clear as day dirty hit. You act like it would be impossible for him to tackle Fields by wrapping him up.
Some people will bitch about everything, regardless of facts. The rules official himself said it was absolutely targeting. It was a penalty. Skalski was lucky he didn't break his neck.

Also, **** Dabo.

Are you advocating that players be able to lower their head and make contact with the crown?

That’s dangerous. There’s a sticker in the helmet that says not to do that.
It happens all the time. Why only call it when a running qb has the ball? Rbs get hit like that all the time.

Bull****. RBs get hit like that every game.

You’ve never see the crown call on a tackle in the open field? Is that what you said?
That's exactly what i said. One on one, open field tackle. Never seen it called unless the qb is trying to give himself up. Which Fields was not doing.

No they don't. You need to pay closer attention so you can see that doesn't happen. Most players aren't stupid, know the rule, and have proper technique.

It will be used in film to train officials and teams. Classic crown targeting.

In the last few seasons, targeting via spearing players with the crown of the helmet has been point of emphasis. In years prior to 2016-2017, crown of helmet hits were more common. Not anymore.

Terrible? Surely you don’t advocate players being able to use the crown of their helmet.
Show me another example of the rule being applied like this. Open field, elusive runner not giving himself up. I'll wait.

The rule says nothing about open field, elusive runner, nor giving himself up.

913 is intent. 914 is result.

both criteria were met. Ejection.

Is a terrible rule when applied like that. Needs to be tweaked.

What does 2-0 mean?
Dude. That hit was dirty as ****. How are you not seeing this? You're cool with planting your head squarely in a guys back? That's a good hit to you.

It doesn't help Skalski's case that he's one of the more hated players in CFB and a roid raging, troglodyte.

What's it like to live in a black and white world?

Intent of the rule is good, application in this instance is terrible.

How many people are so good they can intentionally tee up Fields in the open field?

Nobody is that good.

The application of the rule in this instance was as simple as it gets for a ref. It was a no brained call.
