'12 CA TE Taylor McNamara (Verbal to Oklahoma)

Whether we get this guy or not, I'm pleased with Irwin as a blocking TE and Ray looks like a good player. But it would be a great statement if we can get McNamara or Cope-Fitz.

Here's a direct, unemotional answer to your question: both OU and CU use the tight end about the same amount. Here are the total numbers and then the stats by player:
OU (total receiving stats for TE position through 2011 reg season): 34 catches, 461 yds, 3 TD
CU (total receiving stats for TE position through 2011 reg season): 33 catches, 411 yds, 1 TD

By player:
OU: Hannah (Sr): 25 Catches, 363 yds, 2 TD; Ratterree (Sr.): 9 catches, 98 yds, 1 TD; Hughes(Fr): no catches

CU: Deehan (Sr):24 catches, 322 yds, 1 TD; Bahr (Sr):1 catch, 11 yds; Thornton (So): 6 catches 69 yds; Kasa (Jr.): 1 catch, 8 yds; Wood (So): 1 catch, 1 yd; Fernandez (So.):no catches; Slavin (RFr): no catches

As you can see, both teams will loose the bulk (all in OU's case) of their productivity at the position to graduation, so there is a good chance that a really talented Freshman could see the field. Unfortunately, for us, there seems to be a bit more competition, just in sheer numbers.
OU does already have another very talented TE commit right now in Laith Harlow. The Fr. TE on their roster, Hughes, sounds like he was very good in high school but an ACL tear his senior year scared teams away from recruiting him. I believe he was a preferred walk-on last season at OU.
 
CU uses a lot more 2 TE sets than either OU or Cal. If playing time is a driver for the decision, we offer the best opportunity. Regarding stats, ours were held down by talent, not intent. EB's system is designed to feature the TE.
 
I have no idea but I would be surprised if McNamara ends up at OU. He seems like a Pac12 guy
 
Does anyone know if he actually committed to the Buffs? If so this is a very merry xmas. I just read this on Twitter:

I think I know what happened now. Taylor tweeted this earlier: "what could I do to make your Christmas merry?" and Brady answered @tmcnamara88 to become a buff! #cubuffs Must be that Brady was telling Taylor what he could do to make it a Merry Xmas. Too bad-I was getting pumped up.

I don't know-I hope it is not-I hope he has some inside info. But after seeing that tweet from Taylor I am guessing maybe that was Brady's response to Taylor. No recruiting sites mention anything about him today but of course it's Xmas so it's possible they won't get the news posted until tomorrow.

We can dream that this Brady dude knows something and given that Taylor was supposed to be making a decision around now, it is possible. But Taylor has not Tweeted anything personally.

it has nothing to do with mcnamara...if he did commit it would be pure coincidence

I wonder if this young man feels swamped about now. Even after he announces his commitment, the extra "attention" prolly won't stop until NSD.

I realized later and posted it myself that it was just a response to Taylor. At first I only saw the post from Brady and it said: "@tmcnamara88 to become a buff! #cubuffs"

Am I the only person who would read that by itself and think maybe this news could be true? I use Tweetdeck only for Twitter and Tweetdeck does not show the stream of responses in that way. Anyways, it was a false reading of the tweet. Happy holidays all you grumpy pieces of ****
