2018 College Football News

I don't think Meyer will be held accountable for this at all. This is Ohio State we're talking about (had this been say.....if you replace Meyer with MM and Zach Smith with Joe Tumpkin.....ESPN is talking about this as much as they're talking about the school Lebron just opened, and MM is probably fired already)-ESPN and FOX will happily ignore this story because its going to hurt their investment in the Big 10's TV rights. I couldn't find a thing on ESPN.com about this when I looked just now.

It's a different environment with domestic and sexual abuse (even just in the past 12 months) than it use to be, thank goodness. Like others have posted, the press isn't going to let this go lightly, I suspect.

They're interested in it when it doesn't hurt what they cover-had the Tumpkin thing been as bad as this is, ESPN and FOX would be talking about this constantly. Tumpkin's ex-girlfriend's lawsuit against CU being dismissed even made ESPN.com Because this is Ohio State and Urban Meyer, they don't care. Question for everybody generally-Should we give this its own thread? I thought about starting one here and then checked this one and found this.

I'd expect a lot of that around here as well (there was a lot of that around here, even though this seems to be a much worse situation than Tumpkin). I've seen some people suggest that this would definitely be grounds for firing him. Your thoughts on that?
With what Ohio State is already dealing with on abuse issues, I think the odds are a lot higher than they would normally be that Urban loses his job over this.

I look at CU where MacIntyre got blasted in SI over not being sensitive enough or quick enough to terminate Tumpkin (it took a month and a half), then paid a hefty amount out of pocket - as did Rick George - because they followed the directive of the Chancellor and the instructions on how to handle these type of situations in the way OIEC had trained them. Yes, CU policy had changed since that training, but they never received the updated training and - for some political reasons - OIEC wasn't taken to task for ignoring the athletic department when policies changed.

The current climate is that you can't sweep domestic abuse under the rug. The evidence looks like it will be clear that Urban did so and then lied about it.

Perhaps - but ESPN and FOX aren't the only news outlets.

Nobody around here was calling it fake news or a witch-hunt. People simply asked for the facts to come out and let L.E. do their job.
The world has changed a lot in 18 months in terms of powerful people with strong loyal bases being able to lie, deny and coverup than when the Tumpkin charges came to light. That **** would not have flown in Colorado then or now. There's a difference.

Grounds for firing? Yes. Impeachment deserving.

I'm just saying that most die hard fans are going to defend their guys in some capacity. Nobody was calling witch hunt or fake news around here because we are smart enough to know those two things are ****ing stupid, but there was plenty of defending MM here, right or wrong.

If fans were simply saying let the facts come out, fine. They aren't and apparently you think it's because Ohio State fans are stupid and CU fans are not.

The difference being the undermining of the Free Press and Justice branch of Government. It works for Trump so it can work for Urban. This is not similar in any way to the Tumpkin situation - there is no parallels whatsoever. The world has changed.

MM reported the incident and in no way covered it up. Did he follow proper University protocol by reporting it to CU higher ups was the real question (and why he didn't suspend Tumpkin for something that was only alleged at that point in time).

Urban Meyer is accused of knowing about something and sweeping it under the rug and then purposefully not telling the truth about it.

These are not equivocal in any way.

I'm not saying they are, and I said as much in my post.

The allegations (and evidence) are completely damning. Urban needs to be fired.

Agree with this. I don't know how he managed to get the Ohio State job-especially after he hired Smith as a GA at Florida and he got arrested for DV down there (former OSU coach Earle Bruce and Urban's "life coach" pressured the victim to not press charges). If you sell your soul to win, this is what you're going to get.

On top of what Urban knew, his wife is also an OSU employee. Both were obligated by federal law to report this to their superiors.

Just read the whole article. I think Meyer and OSU are in some trouble here. This will not get swept away. MeTo and the issues in Hollywood and other places have, and rightfully so, put this whole behavior type in a spotlight where it can be exposed for what it is.

I've been hearing about it off and on today. Our local guy gets a bulk of his stuff from Espn, so he says.
