2020 CU football season POSTPONED until Nov 6th?

What do you want me to prove? That consistent testing and contact tracing Is better than not doing either of those? Ok, seems pretty logical.

That having a structure and routine that restricts, to at least some extent, the amount of partying and socializing is safer than those kids not having that in place to do as they please? Ok, seems pretty logical.

None of it means they can’t get it, but how does it make any sense that they’d be less safe being part of a structured and regimented routine with testing and contact tracing then they would be by living their lives without that? If you haven’t noticed, nobody is under stay at home orders, businesses are opening, restaurants are open, movie theaters are opening. How can you make an argument that athletes playing football are less safe than normal college kids living their lives?

Btw, I sparked this conversation tonight and have been involved the entire time. I “disliked” your post because, like Medford, you tried painting anyone who is questioning football not being played as someone who is simply bored, and that’s bull****.

I will cop to being a little fired up last night about this, and a little inflammatory in my posts. The fact remains, however, that contact tracing and testing help control outbreaks only after people are already infected.

I think we're partially speaking past each other. I could be wrong, but it seems like your alternative to these kids playing football is them attending classes in person and living normal college kids life. i personally don't believe there is any way to safely do in person classes, and that these kids should be living at living at home attending college classes remotely.

That said, many states right now have restrictions on the size of gatherings that can occur inside and outside. "Normal college kids living their lives" are hopefully not going to be attending gatherings of more than 100 people inside or outside, yet for football that will have to be the norm for practice and for games. That is absolutely less safe than not attending gatherings of that size. Normal college kids can opt out of attending gatherings like that. Football players who are playing football cannot.

Then add in the factor of travelling out of state, presumably via air (which is ranked as a risky activity), staying at a hotel (a moderately risky activity), regular weightlifting workouts indoors (a risky activity) and it's clear that there is a significant uptick of risk for these kids to play a game.

In a "what if" scenario, tomorrow would have been one of the most anticipated nonconference games of the year with Ohio State at Oregon but with the fires chances are that game would have been cancelled. I guess 2020 was gonna wreak havoc one way or another.

Coach Shaw was on Game Day this morning talking about how the Pac-12 now has a plan for every team to be able to do daily testing. He thought that once that happens they should be able to get back to football and have some sort of season.

Geoff Schwartz had kind of an interesting take on this on twitter last night-Are we as a league waiting to see what the Big 10 does?

Makes perfect sense because I don't see the Pac12 playing unless the B1G comes back. And they certainly wouldn't want to be the only Power 5 conference not playing

I think Larry would probably try for some sort of spring season if it came to it-you know........like the AAF and XFL did the last two years (we saw how well that worked).

If Big 10 ends up playing let's say in October the PAC 12 better have something announced even if that is later November. Being silent would be disastrous.

It was great watching some football today but it's just not the same when most of them aren't playing. Playing Madden or NCAA Football can only take you so far.

The PAC 12 needs to have a plan in place to start play again at the same time the B1G does. Even if that means the California schools have to play on the road for the first month or so. Even if it means everybody except the California schools play. We can’t allow California politics to dictate what the rest of the conference does.
