2024-25 Coaching Carousel

UNC supposedly increasing NIL commitment from $4 million to $20 million which is starting to sound like the required number to play with the big boys. Mack is probably where this NIL commitment was a month ago.

Probably looking to repeat Odom’s trajectory of parlaying 1-2 years of winning in the Charmin soft MWC into a sear back at the big boys table.
For sure. And if you're a HC needing a relaunch, it's quickly become one of the best programs outside the P4 to have a lot of success. I'm not sure anyone in the new MWC will be close to UNLV's talent or resources.

Would anyone think a bold move to Pay to get out of one of our lower level games to play the fighting Belichicks??? Would be a massive game between the biggest coaches in CFB! Sep 6th in 2025 or Sep 12th in 2026. Go big or go home

Could be wrong, but I suspect that in the time between KD being fired and rumors starting to circulate about DS, that most CU fans would've been ecstatic over the prospect of bill Belichick coming here to coach.
Lombardi is a good addition IMO.

Don't forget Air Force. I know they bombed this season but they have a large athletic budget compared to UNLV and the big reason UNLV didn't go to the Pac-12 was the AD deficit. Good time to buy stock in Air Force football I think.

Maybe in general but I really doubt the posters at allbuffs would have bought into that.

Not me.

I soured on the whole concept of NFL coaching experience transferring to college after the Embree years. Remember how they bragged about all the NFL experience on the staff with the crew Embree assembled.

Of course Belichick > Embree but....

If I remember correctly Embree impressed the hiring committee with his well thought out, structured plan on what he was going to do.

There's a ceiling on a service academy. It's not a path to the NFL and it's not a place to earn a lot of NIL. I definitely think it's a program that will win a lot in the new MWC, but there's so much that's a special case with it that I would put it outside the discussion.

This. They won't have close to UNLV's resources or talent, although they might win a lot because of the scheme. It's a different animal and not a good place to springboard back into the P4. There's a reason Troy Calhoun never gets serious consideration for a step up to P4 job despite having the 8th most wins of any active FBS coach. The list of recent guys who have parlayed a service academy job into a P4 job is really thin- I can only think of Paul Johnson recently. Niumatalolo got a G5 job, I guess.

This was certainly a message to the SEC that UNC is telling them "come get us".

After Belchik is done, he could simply step aside and be just the GM while his son is the HC. I imagine there will be more stuff like this coming down the pipeline.

Yea, this could be a precursor to UNC to the SEC (or B1G) in the next year or 2. Three fairly recent splash hires were followed by those schools changing conferences - Prime, Lincoln Riley to USC, and Sark to Texas.

North Carolina's plan with the Belichick hire:

I kinda love bill b to unc. it will be a different kind of theater.

are you not entertained?
I'm watching it closely. If it works, there's going to be a copycat trend of hiring a program CEO like BB will be, a football GM underneath him (part of plan), and then an Associate HC (his son in this case) to handle many of the normal HC duties.

That could be a path for Coach Prime to run things at CU beyond the time he's planning to coach.
