2025 Transfer Portal News & Updates

That is technically not true. It's supposedly at the coaches discretion on whether a player in the portal can play in his original team's bowl game

That's bizarre. Because filling transfer paperwork is a novation of the scholarship agreement between the player and the school.

Once you enter the portal you are no longer a part of your previous team's roster. He's gone and won't play for us anymore. It's all screwed up. We're seeing it with depth on playoff teams leaving their squads because the timing of college free agency means if they stay they limit their opportunities.
Didn't we just have a guy withdraw his name from the portal? So is he back on the roster? Not that NHG rescind but just to say it's all very confusing

Pretty sure you have to be in the portal by like the 29th, or you can't transfer until the spring window
that's a pretty weak reason to abandon your teammates, imo.
why doesn't he just announce his intent? if people care, they know he'll be there

Yes. I had assumed that just meant that you declared as a free agent then chose to re-sign with your current team.

Wants to play both ways… wonder where he could do that 🤔
$1m+ is wild for a CB who wasn't a starter, regardless of being a True Freshman or not. I've also heard that the Bama board puts out information like that (player X leaves for massive bag) to save face on players leaving. Nobody wants to admit or think that Bama isn't special anymore and DeBoer ain't close to Saban.

💯

If I'm a Bama fan reading that, my reaction is:

1. He's not worth that much.
2. We should never guarantee a starting spot.
3. Opportunity to play both ways would have to be earned.
--------
4. Goodbye and good luck.

Definitely seems targeted to spin fan opinion away from being pissed at the program for losing him to the portal.

Yeah. I saw Dillingham talk about this. His position is that guys need to do what is best for them. And he recognizes that waiting until after the season could hurt players. He said his guys would be treated no differently as long as they show up for meetings, workouts, etc.

It also gives the player more time to change his mind and the staff more time to come up with more money or whatever.
