All in One DirecTV Hates Pac-12 Network Thread (Was Larry Scott Thread)

So, curious how the conversation with DTV went. Did they try to keep you? Did you tell them you're leaving because of the lack of the Pac 12 network? Did they have a response to that?

No real response the lady was super nice, they offered me the whole pile of freebies but with the reply of "yes I know the marquee games are on espn/fox, but CU sucks" they caved.

I'm on hold. I can post.

"So, do I understand correctly that you tried to waive the fee in the system?"

"Well, ummm, I, well, not exactly."

"When I was transferred to this number, I was told that I'd be speaking to someone who has the power to waive my fee."

"Well, I do have a lot of power, but there are these criteria, we have to follow, see, and I'm just not sure how to do this."

"I find that hard to believe. It would be silly if nobody had the authority to waive the fee."

"Well, let's see. I'm...I'm...I'm still trying to reach that supervisor..."

Oh Jesus Christ.

weird how you go that high up the chain just to waive a fee. I worked in customer service in another cable company and as a frontline staff we were given the power to make such decision if you feel it was justified. I don't know if these DTV staff just won't take the responsibility of the decision and pass it up to someone else

I'm not entirely sure they believe me. Plus, if they waive it, they're opening up a can of worms.

Anyway, the supervisor denied me, but I believe we parted friends. I explained the path I would follow after I hung up, and he appeared to be at peace with it.

I immediately contacted the Pac 12 Network, and shared my story. We'll see if they have any desire to leverage it into bad pub for Direct TV.

When did the Dalai Lama start taking customer service calls for DTV? Sounds more like an encounter group...

I've been a relatively happy DTV customer for four years. I was patient through the past year without Pac12Net, and did use someone's Xfinity login to stream a few basketball games. But that's clunky and you can't record/timeswitch. The latest public battle between P12N and DTV was enough for me. I'm having Dish installed on Friday. I've never subscribed to Sunday Ticket (I prefer College to NFL, three NFL games on Sunday is plenty for me. Who has time to watch the Buffs on Saturday and then all these NFL games on Sunday? We live in Colorado, go outside and go for a walk, play golf, do SOMETHING other than sit on the couch). Plus with Dish I get a Slingbox which I've been wanting for when I'm traveling and am in an airport or hotel in a place that has little else going for it. To the guy who says he's getting a free IPAD from Dish? You are probably paying +$25 per month for a year for that IPAD. So your $250 cancel fee, plus $300 in extra monthly means about $550 IPAD. But enjoy!

They might be right.

With all the bitches around here getting a free discount from DTV over the P12 issue? Yeah, you got that right.

Personally, I can't bring myself to watch CU football anymore so I'm kind of indifferent. All I have to do is watch the Allbuffs chat, which is vastly more entertaining than the game is, to know what's happening. Fifty people saying some variation of **** at the same time tells you all you need to know about how the game is going.

First day of college football with Dish has been a very good experience. Hopper w/picture in picture plus sling player on my laptop gives me a lot of options for keeping tabs on games without missing much of anything.

My only minor complaints from the move to Dish is the lack of a bundled B10 network with my regular package and non-HD espnU, but I'm happy so far and no regrets with the switch. Any of you DTVers that are concerned about moving to Dish, don't be.

an update on my contact with dtv.... ended up getting $40 off per monthly bill, 2 years of nfl ticket free, and upgraded to genie system..thanks pac 12 network!... I go to all cu home games so if we are still relevant in oct I will head out to the bww's!

Larry Scott: No DirecTV for Pac12Network this year

I had comcast, but called directv and told them that I was really really pissed at comcast and wanted to switch but needed PAC 12 network. They couldn't give me PAC 12 network, obviously, so they hooked me up with all the premium movie channels and the sports package free for a year. So awesome.

your last place or did this just happen?

****!!! ****ity, **** ****!

The guy came out to install my Dish today, but couldn't get a signal. Big ass tree in the way.

Back to the drawing board.

Well, this is going to kill a lot of our alumni clubs around the country. Was looking at the Va. Beach chapter FB page and they said they were still trying to "solve the Pac-12 problem." Translation - the normal viewing place, The Shorebreak, has DirecTV so no Pac-12 Network.

The Shorebreak is a fantastic sports bar/grill on Shore Drive near the beach and does huge NFL business on Sundays - consider me impressed the CU Alumni group out here was able to get a spot there for Saturdays.

In our homes, we can talk all we want about changing to Dish, Comcast, etc., but until DirecTV loses the Sunday Ticket, no sports bar in their right mind is going to switch to Dish or cable and lose the NFL business. Meanwhile all our alumni chapters (outside of Colorado) are left scrambling. Hell, event the Seattle club can't find a place to watch the games on Pac-12 network because even the sports bars IN A MAJOR PAC-12 MEDIA MARKET don't carry P12N.

Re: Larry Scott: No DirecTV for Pac12Network this year

Neighbor's tree, and it's really tricky. In fact, he wants to take it out, but the arborist (his word, not mine) said it will require a crane.

This is a serious problem.

Craigslist ad, FREE FIREWOOD, YOU CUT AND HAUL. Post it through a proxy server so you can't be traced. Problem solved.

Or tell the cops that Hoffa was buried under the tree.

Huh. My local dive bar has direct tv and comcast. They have a view of the parking lot that looks over highway 101. They manage it, and they were doing both well before the P12N existed.

DTV only has NFL Sunday Ticket exclusivity for 1 more year. They're scrambling to figure out what their business model is going to be going forward. DTV just announced rate hikes coming. They weren't about to add PACN as anything other than an add-on in the midst of their restructuring unless Larry Scott basically gave it away.

Is that just this season or the 2014 season too? Thought I got a good deal on the "Movers' Special" with DTV and ended up getting furked in the long run. Using the parents' Comcast login now, but if rates go up, it will probably be worth it to pay the penalty of one year and just go to with Cox (or whichever cable company has P12N) out here next year.

Dish guy is coming to install mine tomorrow. I've been a cable (Time Warner / Comcast) customer for almost 20 years. I told them (and Dish) that the only reason I am making the switch is to get the Pac12 Network (and I have to purchase the expanded sports tier because I'm not in the PAC 12 footprint). Can't wait to see the game in Saturday!

It goes through 2014.
