Bowl Games (other than ours) and associated silliness 2024 Plus the Playoffs

If you don’t even want the ACC champion in I assume you’d be fine with a true SEC and Big Ten invitational?
I’d be fine with conference bowl tie-ins, and no playoffs…which I’ve made clear. If we have we have to have a playoff, 12 teams is too many, and no - ACC shouldn’t be in this ****.

Don’t underestimate the role that Fox has, btw. Fox being in bed and married to the Big Ten helps the conference preserve its interests and push its narratives. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the two conferences are essentially married to the two most important media stakeholders.
The entire bottom 2/3 of the B1G is not fundamentally good or built to be great, and then having these cold weather playoff games is really not that exciting

Clemson had a good showing today. They're going to lose to a better team, but didn't look outclassed.

FWIW, if you had told me before the season that I could have any team's roster I would have picked either Texas or Ohio State.

I don’t disagree about 12 being too many but it seems like we’re going to 16 because the networks want it and because they’re ready to pay for it.

Those will be the two most expensive teams ever assembled in college football.

Alabama played 3 G5/FCS teams and a bad Wisconsin team. SEC teams play fewer P4 games than other conferences. It makes a difference and has been the major reason that conference has built the illusion that it’s so tough top to bottom when in reality it’s always only had 2-3 great programs at any given time.
And how often does one of the prominent SEC teams actually play an OOC game outside of the SEC footprint. Sure they do "neutral site" games, Neutral like Georgia playing in Atlanta, or Texas or A&M playing at Jerry World.

This season Alabama actually played at Wisconsin, LSU played USC in Las Vegas and lost, Mississipi State played at ASU and lost, Missouri played mighty UMass on the road, Texas did go on the road and play at Michigan for a game that was scheduled long before the conference change.

Not exactly an argument for conference dominance.

To be fair I’ve long felt the potential the college system has always had to generate hypothetical discussions especially throughout the offseason was a big reason for the sport’s popularity because it’s always been subjective as hell. But I think that whoever said that the pre BCS system was the best one may have had a point. But that system of course didn’t generate 1.3bn a year for the TV rights alone.

(That was me) I’d argue it would now

If you want. The field is set, the games are being played, and yet all the air is being taken up by SEC coaches and fans whining.

Honestly, if you were able to step back and look at it from a non-SEC fan perspective, you'd probably be embarrassed by the way you are all acting. Like as an entire segment of the country.
I think the committee used the wrong data to select the field. I think they will learn. I also think they will reseed. There are several tweaks they can make to make it a more competitive field, conferences notwithstanding. I think/hope that will happen in the future. .

I like some of these games. Several more are scheduled in the future as many thought this would be the way to the playoffs. The Committee killed that this year. We are going to get fewer of these games now. That’s unfortunate.

Make another thread will all of this non- game related blather.
