They’ll never sniff the playoffs again. What is the purpose of belittling Indiana? They had a great season and will learn from last night. Iron sharpens iron
I do not know what's more boring these football games or the discussion about how the conference that plays 8 conference games should be rewarded for playing Mercer in November
Can we talk about data instead?
ND also boat raced everyone on the schedule after that NIU game. But you do have games like this year when ND lost to NIU as a letdown after the win at aTm. That aTm win is a lot more indicative of the team they have than the NIU loss. There are certain programs which we know have dudes everywhere, so even when they're having a down year a win or loss against them is meaningful - such as Texas winning at Michigan or taking care of Oklahoma in its rivalry game. Yeah, neither were great this year like they usually are but they were also good enough respectively to beat Ohio State and Alabama so those are much more impressive wins to me than beating a 7-5 Boston College like SMU did.
Sure, 12-1 team got screwed last season so how can a committee be trusted to pick 12 teams that actually deserve to be in the playoffs? Can we talk about data instead?
Nah. They should have a 8 game season then seed 128 teams and have a 7 round playoff for the championship. Eazy peazy. Two games into the 12-team college playoff format and it is crystal clear 12 teams is too many.
Cannon fodder for the upper guys, but what if….They’ll never sniff the playoffs again.
That was the best team Cignetti is going to field at IU.They’ll never sniff the playoffs again.
How do you envision the error bars on the statistics like SOR or a power ranking? Can we talk about data instead?
Crazy. Earlier I was assured that a 14 game season with a 16 team playoff would be awesome.Maybe - I like 12.
I think if they go 16 or 24- like FCS - i think you'd have to get rid of Conference championship games. FCS plays an 11 game season and no conference championship games.
Playing 13 games before the playoffs start would be tough.
But as you mention it's about the $$
All of those teams played 9 conference games. Carry on, thoughSMU played Houston Christian
Indiana played Western Illinois
Ohio State played Akron, Western Michigan and Marshall
Boise played Portland State
Carry on though
Not ASU or Boise StDoes Climpson deserve to be in the playoffs?
If you don’t even want the ACC champion in I assume you’d be fine with a true SEC and Big Ten invitational?I mean, I love watching Indiana, SMU, and Clemson get embarrassed by being in games they have no business being in…but I’d prefer for these games not to be happening.

What he actually wants, and what I want is not having a playoff. If you don’t even want the ACC champion in I assume you’d be fine with true SEC and Big Ten invitational?
I think ESPN was looking to recoup some of the ridiculous money they’re spending on this with a sub license. On a different note, I find it odd that ESPN sold these 2 afternoon games to TNT. One theory I saw is that as part of ESPN's deal for MNF and the playoff games that maybe they can't run college games opposite the NFL, which makes sense if true
Alabama played 3 G5/FCS teams and a bad Wisconsin team. SEC teams play fewer P4 games than other conferences. It makes a difference and has been the major reason that conference has built the illusion that it’s so tough top to bottom when in reality it’s always only had 2-3 great programs at any given time.Ooooh 9 conference games in the ACC!
And Indiana played 7 of the 8 bottom teams in the B1G
EDIT: ACC only played 8 conference games
That’s correct. I think I said this earlier today in this thread but a playoff is an unfair system to determine a champion. What he actually wants, and what I want is not having a playoff.
Most years, only 2 or 3 teams really even deserve a shot.
Oh no, the SEC people would then argue to not bother with the "lowly" B1G and just automatically give the crown to the SEC winner each year since really nobody else matters. If you don’t even want the ACC champion in I assume you’d be fine with a true SEC and Big Ten invitational?
How many times did they manage to sneak Alabama either into the playoff or the championship game? Was it twice or three times?Oh no, the SEC people would then argue to not bother with the "lowly" B1G and just automatically give the crown to the SEC winner each year since really nobody else matters.
Don’t underestimate the role that Fox has, btw. Fox being in bed and married to the Big Ten helps the conference preserve its interests and push its narratives. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the two conferences are essentially married to the two most important media stakeholders.Oh no, the SEC people would then argue to not bother with the "lowly" B1G and just automatically give the crown to the SEC winner each year since really nobody else matters.
