Howell is a nuthugger who repeatedly spews beta in an attempt to lock down Woelk’s job once he retires. Adam wants Big12 and I agree
They will if we don’t have any options
Dr. Phil will be watching Cal, Stanford, UW and Oregon go to the prom while he is stuck at home playing Canasta with RG.I don’t think CU will ever agree to voluntarily separate from Cal, Stanford and UW, even if it means serious lost revenues to the AD. I will very surprised if associating with the academic elites and progressive politics of the west coast does not rule the day when the followers at CU make a decision on conference affiliation.
Old Maid.Dr. Phil will be watching Cal, Stanford, UW and Oregon go to the prom while he is stuck at home playing Canasta with RG.
I know all the focus is on football, but also consider that CU is tied with Oregon State and Wazzou for the fewest varsity sports offered in the P12 and would be the fewest in the B1G. CU would be the only B1G school without a wrestling program (Cal doesn't have one, either), the only one without a softball program, and one of two without a baseball program (Wiscy is the other).Academics, yes. I don't see how they fit Alumni base, fan base or progressive leadership any better than CU
Go Fish.Old Maid.
But in that scenario, Stanford has to be worth much, much more, right? Because if Cal delivers Bay Area subscribers, then that's no longer a selling point for taking Stanford, too.If Cal gives the B1G a huge chunk of SF Bay area subscribers with bumped money and Cal takes a discounted payout, they would be a very attractive. This also helps because Stanford may be willing to listen more intently.
I think that could be taken into consideration as a tie breaker by the conference, but Fox is driving the bus and I can’t imagine that matters at all to them.I know all the focus is on football, but also consider that CU is tied with Oregon State and Wazzou for the fewest varsity sports offered in the P12 and would be the fewest in the B1G. Cal offers 14 mens varsity sports and 16 women's varsity sports, which would be the third most and second most respectively in the B1G.
Of course Stanford is more valuable. I’m just offering a theory why Cal may be a consideration (especially at a discount). But in that scenario, Stanford has to be worth much, much more, right? There is the theory that getting Stanford in the B1G might help land ND, which is the biggest prize available.
Cal taking a discount in the B1G - even a 50 percent haircut - would be more than a full share in current P10.Of course Stanford is more valuable. I’m just offering a theory why Cal may be a consideration (especially at a discount).
It's really not any different than USC/UCLA. Cal/Stanford gives you the entire bay area and basically the entire Northern California market. But in that scenario, Stanford has to be worth much, much more, right? The P12 was murdered by the LA teams leaving. The P10 has simply not acknowledged that they’re in hospice.Cal taking a discount in the B1G - even a 50 percent haircut - would be more than a full share in current P10.
P12 economics just don’t work.
Strong words. But appropriate. Truth. The P12 was murdered by the LA teams leaving. The P10 has simply not acknowledged that they’re in hospice.
Dead SeriousNot sure if serious.
Just pull the trigger Rick
Are the odds better with them than the B1G? I don't see Sankey conceding the west to the B1G.I get ya. I see it differently.
May be time for RG to call Sankey. I know it sounds crazy, but time to deal.
just keep pointing the hand wringers at CU to vanderbilt and uga and uf and texas. ol miss? msu? etc. oh them? look over here instead. Are the odds better with them than the B1G? I don't see Sankey conceding the west to the B1G.
It's ok - as long as we have a full share by the time Phil actually retires (or dies) it'll be fine. We aren't going to be competitive until one of those things happens anyway.also i think a reason that the big is waiting to ink their deal before any more invites is no add beyond usc ucla or nd is going to be revenue accretive. whomever they let in next will be a junior partner. even junior partners are probably going to make more than what we are currently facing.
same for the sec. if we indulge the fantasy that they do want to expand west, no way we get anything resembling an equal share at joining.
I think the SEC has an automatic escalator to their deal, so we'd be able to get a full share there immediately. If the B1G tries to lock the SEC out of the western time zones, an SEC move to snag Phoenix and Denver (ASU & CU) would not be all that shocking.also i think a reason that the big is waiting to ink their deal before any more invites is no add beyond usc ucla or nd is going to be revenue accretive. whomever they let in next will be a junior partner. even junior partners are probably going to make more than what we are currently facing.
