Does anyone see the McChesney offer a possibility of "everyone moves up a spot" on the defensive side, and promoting a DC from within?

Message to everbody: McChesney is NOT coaching the defense. Strength coach only.

I thought his tweets were pretty clear. Apparently not

None of this is very professional looking, as a small business owner or as a major university employee :(

I get that a tweet during negotiations may not be professional, but who cares. Since when did we begin to give a **** about professionalism? It's either a good hire or it isn't.

Probably because this won't be the last time this happens with him... and it will probably only get worse once he's actually hired. Anyways...

This has to be the week we hire a DC right? Any day now

At this point, it has to be a current staff member of Oregon, Florida State, Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, or NE Patriots. If it's not someone on one of those 6 staffs, it will be a "low key" hire and MM will essentially be the DC. There is no other explanation or excuse for it taking this long.

I think both these scenarios are possible. Who knows we could still make a splash hire not from a team still active but I think all signs point to HCMM giving up on a big splash and going for someone young who aligns with his philosophy and is willing to learn from HCMM.

I also believe the thought inside the program is the two hires have to great recruiters, first and foremost, and defensive coaches as secondary priorities. I mean, let's face it. MM "fired" Baer because their ideas on stopping P12 offenses didn't align. Therefore it's going to be MM's defense in 2015 and whoever he hires as the "Defensive Coordinator" will just be his "yes man" and play caller. I'm not totally opposed to that by any means, as long as the two coaches they bring in can recruit their asses off.

If you believe that's what MM wants, then no wonder he's having a hard time. I don't think it's quite that extreme. If you're not going to let your coaches coach, they won't want to come here or stay here because there's no growth in that type of arrangement.

Just my $.02, but what McChesney has done is pretty poor taste imo. Those that are stating that use of social media is perfectly fine, and people need to get with the times are not understanding the issue. There is nothing wrong with the use of social media with respect to the Colorado Buffaloes and being savvy with it to relate to recruits and players...when appropriate.

Matt is basically publicly sharing what should be a confidential discussion and negotiation about a possible position with the University of Colorado. It comes across as self-serving and small time with respect to his decision making. His tweets really sound like he is leveraging the opportunity provided to him by CU as a way to promote how "awesome" he and his business are. I would expect a coach or any other university employee to be able to demonstrate discretion.

I agree. It also would be an advantage at evaluating a lot of things about in state kids. Really interested to see how this works out.
He'd have to sell his interests in the company. Now, maybe he could sell to his wife or brother or uncle or something. That I do not know.

Kind of hard to believe it'd be an NFL guy, but who knows?

Sorry, I should have said "Maybe the thought inside the program..." I don't necessarily think that's for sure what's going on, but with every passing day that a DC isn't hired (with the dead period ending this Thursday), there has to be something to this sort of idea.

Mac has a lot of NFL ties, so I could see it happening, if said candidate wants to get back to college or make the jump to coordinator faster than he would in the NFL. Then there's the money. Taking Seto as an example, as a Passing Game Coordinator for an NFL team, he would stand to get an incredible raise by accepting the DC job here (assuming they'd be offering upwards of the $1 mm/yr mark).

However, in regards to Seto specifically... Seattle DC Dan Quinn is definitely getting a Head Coaching job at the end of their season. Seto has been with Carroll for 13 years and would probably be a leading candidate to take over for Quinn. Obviously, in that situation, we'd have a better shot of getting Kirby Smart to make a lateral move to CU.

I think at this point if I were MacIntyre I would look at someone like Nick Aliotti to be DC. He is at the end of his career and does not have to worry about his future as much. Give him a 3 year $600k/year contract. He knows the pac 12 offenses and then MacIntyre does not have mentor someone in the DC job. Plus CU would actually get value for the money instead of overpaying some young guy to take a career risks.

But CU would get ZERO recruiting lift from that sort of hire.

You know Ohio State is in the championship game right?

We had a chance to make a signature hire. To make an upgrade. And Perhaps we still do.

That being said this hire was seemingly derailed, like the attempts to hire before settling on MacIntyre, and the way we hired Embree. They all play into the theory that we've become a bit of a graveyard of college football. How we repair that Im not quite sure. Other than taking a lot of time with a single coach and having a lot of patience until he can get a better staff together that can improve recruiting.

How was it seemingly derailed? We aren't the only school this year alone where the hire has taken roughly a month.

I don't know if you are trying to be sarcastic, but CU is not going to get any recruiting bounce this cycle regardless. But Aliotti is considered a very good recruiter with deep ties in the Bay Area of California where he is from - Oregon thought losing his connections there was going to be a big hit to their recruiting that area.

We could absolutely get a bump depending on the hire, pass on NA. Big time pass.

Wasn't OU just turned down for it's OC job by a former OU guy? It happens to even the best of 'em.

I really don't think CU had the opportunity to make the "splash" hire many on here believe. I think we're going to get a caliber of guy that we all should have expected to take over the one of the worst defenses in the best offensive conference in the country. And stop trying to sell it as some sort of dream job. The CU DC position is nobody's dream job right now.
