Julmisse arrested Thursday, court appearance Friday - dismissed from the team

If the facts are as he reports them, this should be a wake-up call for Julmisse and he should get MM to immediately release him from his scholarship and then he should start dialing up JUCOs ASAP. African American athletes have a steep uphill climb to get justice in Boulder.

Thankfully, his lawyer will advise him against those rash decisions.

I side with the student-athletes when they are falsely charged or over charged. Always have and always will.
And that's fine, but saying he should immediately look to get out of his scholarship and transfer to a JUCO because Boulder doesn't like black athletes is dumb.

I tend to place the atheletes' reputations over the vicarious entertainment interests of a bunch of internet fans and ex-frat boy couch potatoes...

And hopefully, he'll ignore the lawyer.

A lawyer is going to rightfully advise a client not to leave the state.

As a practical measure, asking the school that is paying for rent and other things to immediately cease those obligations when you might have a fairly costly legal situation looming seems like a rash decision as well.

Enough conflicting information in the article to make this more of a wait and see case than most.

OK. Restatement: If the incident is as he reported it, the minute he is "cleared" he needs to head for better pastures ASAP. Don't you guys see that African American student athletes in Boulder are pretty much guilty until proven innocent? You can deride schools like Nebraska and Tennessee that admittedly have their shares of bad actors, and err on the other side of this issue, but in PC Boulder, African American football players are in the cross hairs.

What am I missing where you're making this a racial issue? My understanding is it's a State of Colorado issue that an arrest must be made upon a DV call. No charges have been filed yet. This is unbelievably irresponsible on a public forum IMO.

Definitely. All African American athletes should immediately leave Boulder for their own safety. All anybody wants to do in that awful town is to tarnish the character of those students.

This is so false. I've been at places where the police have came where there were both white student athletes, and black student athletes. Everyone was treated the same. One was a white student athlete getting in an altercation with a black student athlete. This happens sometimes when guys spend every day together. You know what happened? Both just got warnings and were treated the same. Robbins got arrested and kicked off the team. Was he guilty? Yes. Josh Tupou threw a guy into a fence. Was he guilty? Yes. If Ryan Moeller did the same thing he would be arrested and charged accordingly. The fact you are bringing this to be about race is ridiculous. Ant probably did something stupid and if it is domestic violence where he physically hit a women he should be gone and will be gone. I just don't get your agenda here.

I wouldn't go so far as to paint Boulder as the picture of racial equality, but nothing about these particular facts would lead me to advise Julmisse to get out of Dodge as soon as possible.

African Americans are safer in Boulder than just about any city of its size or larger. And definitely safer than in crappy Knoxville, which is not a good city.

When it is 90% white it is hard to paint Boulder as the picture of racial equality. My point is that I don't think the police target african americans anymore than anyone else.

you can arrest someone without filing charges? EDIT: i guess you can...nvmd.

I haven't been in Boulder in many years, but there was a time when the perception was that your second sentence was inaccurate. However, even in those days, I would not have advised Julmisse that he needed to flee for his own safety.

They target athletes and the football team has a higher percentage of African Americans than does the general population.

Just speaking from personal experience being at certain parties, pregames, or the bars. But who knows how they really feel.

Same narrative anywhere you are. Should have read the OU boards when Mixon was arrested. Always out to get the football players in Norman.

Not saying it doesn't happen across this country, but still think it's really irresponsible to make that claim. Especially in this case where an arrest must be made.

I don't think he needs to flee for his own safety; if cleared I think it would be be wise for him to transfer for his honor and for his football career.

Agree to disagree. Parties I have been with athletes have been given more leeway than any other parties I have been to. But you obviously know more about the police in Boulder in the past five years and how they deal with black athletes, so I am probably wrong here.
