Ladies and gentlemen, the Prime effect

I am celebrating my anniversary with Ms. Manhattan in the Caribbean.

I wore a CU logo jacket today. At checkin, the desk agent Maureen says excitedly, “is that a Colorado jacket?! Prime Time! He12man! 9-3 is so exciting. He really turned the program around. Did you see that they signed Julian Lewis from Georgia?”

Ms. Manhattan and I had to pull our jaws off of the ground when she added, “don’t worry! Another Hunter son will soon play for Coach Prime Time and CU. Did you know Travis has a younger brother named Trayvis? He is an excellent wide receiver and only a sophomore in high school! I told my grandson, who lives in North Carolina, that he will make me proud if he gets good enough to play for Coach Prime at CU.”

There’s a grandmother in the French West Indies who follows our beloved Buffs because of Prime. She wants her grandson to step up his game so he can be recruited by the Buffs.

This is wild. This is the Prime Effect.

Why were you wearing a jacket?

So according to the celeb gossip sites, Prime is being dragged into the Jay-Z/Diddy stuff as he owned a nightclub where Jay-Z was hitting on a 16 year old Beyonce

Merica!

I've been thinking about secondary effects.

We've seen posts about increased enrollment.
Information has been posted about financial impact to businesses in the Boulder area.

Do we expect the CU band to start attracting higher talent who want to play in front of bigger audiences and more TV viewers?

How about spirit squad members?

On other sports, I've always perceived that being a premier football school may not attract the best players in other sports, as stud hoopers want to play for a basketball school, not a school where FB is king. But I also think having the FB team garnering so much attention raises the floor for other sports -- I wouldn't be surprised to learn that, all else being equal, CU basketball gets more attention because the Colorado brand itself becomes stronger.

All this is just idle speculation. I don't have anything to back it up, but wondering if anyone else has insight or thoughts to share.

The spirit squad is comprised of a number of elements - all are pretty good. Two of those elements in particular - the dance team and the Chip team - expect to compete for their respective national championship every year.

Thanks for the response. Two comments:
1. 'Expect to' and 'do' are very different things
2. if you meant to say 'do', I don't think you're trying to suggest the bar can't be raised higher, but correct if I'm wrong.

I didn't immediately find results from national level spirit squad competitions. If I don't lose focus on this subject, I'll dig more when on my laptop.

Both the dance team and the Chip team often win the national championship, and I think they are always in contention. The bar is very high.

There is another point in there, though. They've been elite for a long time - even the years when the football team was bad.

So there may be some correlation between the football team and adjacent teams (Ohio State band, for instance), but there is some evidence that the success of the spirit squad is somewhat independent.

I think that the main benefit is the amount of interest for kids to want to be in Cheer or Dance or Band or Ralphie Handler programs at CU. Also, I hope it means more resources so we're never again seeing the Band basically doing a GoFundMe campaign to get itself some new uniforms.

I think having a strong football team / football culture absolutely does spread across the rest of the programs these days.
