Official 2016 Coaching Carousel Thread - How safe is Kevin Sumlin´s job?

No real early signs yet. Seeing names like Brohm and Rhule floating. Never discount UVA to just go safe and hire Greg Schiano. The fans definitely do not want Sanford.

Ha, beat me to it, and right after I posted that I didn't see a P5 coach out there who looked like an upgrade other than Mullen who is rumored to be talking to Maryland. Now there are two.

There is a major desire to get away from the "old clique" of which Golden is a part (Groh guy).

Richt was very close to coming to UVA back in the day when Welsh retired (UVA was far more attractive back then). He'd be largely welcomed.

Isn't Richt a religious man? Maybe he doesn't go the coaching route anymore. He's a pretty damn good coach imho.

Several hirings are in:

Minnesota: Interim HC/DC Tracy Claeys tagged to replace the retiring Jerry Kill
Hawaii: former QB Nick Rolovich gets the gig to replace Chow (h/t nik)
VT: Fuente takes over (h/t Jens)
Illinois: Interim HC Cubit gets a 2 year deal (h/t Jens).
Iowa St.: Matt Campbell from Toledo

Openings:

Mizzou: Pinkel resigns for health reasons (Matt Ruhle interviewing)
Maryland: Edsall out (Bill O'Brien Dino Babers, Noel Mazzone, Scott Frost, Frank Reich rumors)
University of North Texas: Dan McCarney out. (OU OC Lincoln Riley supposedly interviewed, ASU AC Chris Thomsen rumors)
U$C: Sarkissian out. (Sean Payton rumors)
The other USC: Spurrier to retire as in right now (h/t to Sno); (Tom Herman, Kirby Smart, Rich Rod rumors)
Miami: Golden out (Butch Davis, Mario Cristobal rumors)
UCF: O'Leary out
Tulane: Curtis Johnson out
UL_Monroe: Todd Berry fired.
Syracuse: Schaffer out. (Ed Orgeron rumors)
UGA: Richt out (h/t nik)
UVA: London out (h/t cmgoods)
Rutgers: Kyle Flood out. (The AD went first FWIW, she is out too).

Secondary market:

Memphis: Fuente goes to VT
Toledo: Matt Campbell goes to Iowa St.
KjSU: Snyder may or may not retire, 76 years old now, KjSU looking at possible replacements, but Snyder advises he will hang on, like a nagging cough.

Hot seat:

Purdue: Halzell
NMSU: Martin
WVU: Holgerson

Odds and ends:

UT (because they need their own category) Strong has the support of the Admin. (for now), weirdly says he will not talk to Miami, Miami says he is on their short list. Who knows? As the big cigars turn....

Not really on the hot seat, but Dykes is rumored to be unhappy in Berkeley.

Les Miles stays at LSU.

Dan Mullen supposedly looking for the exit in Starkville.

Mark Richt lived in this area as a kid....still has some connections. Again, another agent I'd call. I don't see him retiring.

Absolutely. He has 15 plus years experience in big boy FB. He has good AC options and instant cache on the recruiting trail, CU lacks all three right now.

Darrell Halzell at Purdue appears safe but his OC/QB coach John Shoop, DC Greg Hudson and DL coach Rubin Carter all get the axe.....

Gotta be impressed at how fast some of these hires are happening.

Think a lot of backroom planning has been done. To many schools embarrassed in recent years by on/off coaching hires.

Have the deal done before you fire the last guy, sign it and announce it. Makes it harder though for schools who's states require an open hiring process.

Richt would be an upgrade. No argument there.
I'd say so:

@CUBUFF80 -- and then there's over a decade as OC & QB guru under Bowden at FSU. All the guy knows is 9+ wins a year. (I actually prefer Richt to Miles.)
