Official 2017 Coaching Carousel Thread - Zona hires Sumlin

USA Today has the RichRod scoop.

"Rodriguez's personal behavior toward Wilhelmsen led her first to seek, unsuccessfully, a job in another university position and later to resign her job as the coach's assistant, the claim says. Among the allegations:
  • The coach called her into his office in January 2017 when he began discussing his marital problems and then grabbed her, “embraced her, touched the side of her breast, and tried to kiss her.” She managed to pull away. Two weeks later, he called her back to his office and said he wanted to "take care of her." Rodriguez handed her $300 in cash, but she refused the money.
  • In February 2017, he called her into his office, and while talking she saw him "grasping his penis beneath his basketball shorts."
  • Rodriguez asked Wilhelmsen to get him underwear from the equipment area. After she found a male staff member to bring them to him, Rodriguez told her how "his preferred style of underwear ‘visually enhanced’ his genitalia when worn."
  • Rodriguez timed his workouts so would walk back to his office shirtless in front of Wilhelmsen.
  • A coaching assistant made a comment that when Wilhelmsen raised money for the football program she did it by rubbing her breasts on donors. Rodriguez laughed at the comment.
  • Rodriguez asked Wilhelmsen to come to his home alone to help him with his dog. Wilhelmsen texted the coach that she and her husband could come, but she would not come alone. “You know I love you,” Rodriguez texted back, with a kissing-face emoji.
  • On Wilhelmsen’s last day of work on Aug. 11, 2017, Rodriguez’s wife cornered her in the office and demanded to know the truth about her husband’s affair. Wilhelmsen said she apologized for not informing his wife sooner.
Wilhelmsen also expressed concern about a so-called “Hideaway Book” that was written by Rodriguez and given annually to coaches and football operations staff. The goal was to "establish secrecy within Rodriguez’s inner circle and establish complete control of the group."
Not good if those allegations are even half true.

Rich Rod's Official Response:

(not to make light of a potentially serious situation)

USA Today has the RichRod scoop.

Wilhelmsen also expressed concern about a so-called “Hideaway Book” that was written by Rodriguez and given annually to coaches and football operations staff. The goal was to "establish secrecy within Rodriguez’s inner circle and establish complete control of the group."

Also:
  • ...some instances during this time period where football players sent Melissa screen shots of their genitalia and illicit overtures via text. When she asked Rodriguez to intervene, he ignored her.
  • Rodriguez’ demand for secrecy included doing nothing about a player that needed help. On August 8, 2016, football player Zach Hemmila was found dead from a painkiller overdose.
The evening before, Matt Dudek had taken Zach to Rodriguez telling him that something was wrong with Zach and needed help. But Rodriguez did nothing simply saying, “he’ll be fine.”
  • On April 5, 2017, Melissa attempted to make a second appointment with Mike Ketcham to discuss transferring departments. She received no response. Eventually Mike told her, “We can’t take yon; Coach [Rodriguez] would be pissed.”

Those are all taken form the text of the notice of claim posted on the Phoenix Business Journal.

This is from the claim as well:
Jason, a former Marine and DEA agent, feels emasculated by what Rodriguez has done to his wife. For as long as he can remember, Jason has seen himself as a protector of the innocent and helpless who was always willing to put himself in harm’s way to save those who couldn’t save themselves. He didn’t realize that Melissa needed saving, until it was too late. When he sees what has happened to Melissa, he sees it as his own failure to be a man. Rodriguez has taken this away from Jason, perhaps forever.

This is all foreign to me, is this "loss of manhood" or whatever you would call it claim the sort of thing that finds it's way into these sort of documents. It seems overly dramatic. I'd understand if the claim said that Rich Rod caused harm to the husband by causing extreme marital strife and there was some sort of damage to be sought there, but this just seems like language meant for Maury Povich not the judicial system.

FWIW, the claim has more than a few typos in it as well. None of this makes me think her allegations are less valid, just that this lawyer kind of sucks at this part of his job.

That letter was less a legal document and more a press release. Not the best way to handle it since now he's blown most of her leverage.

Well, since her name is now in the USA Today...

She had to know that Rich Rod didn't hire her for her secretarial skills, right? :ROFLMAO:

I understand why UA fired him. Sounds like he's a pig who ran his organization in a way that was going to be a breeding ground for problems.

I don't think Helfrich will ever get a sniff again at a top half P5 program without:
1) A HC stop at a bottom feeder P5 program
2) A G5 school as a HC
3) A successful stint as an OC NOT tied to Chip
