Official 2025 Opening Week - Georgia Tech Thread

His explanation was very worrisome. He was either trying to excuse his own ineptitude and not take accountability, or he was completely oblivious to what was happening on the field and with the clock. I’m not sure which one is worse…
He is oblivious, and nobody will tell him that he’ll truly listen to. That’s my take. He just doesn’t understand it. It is what it is. It’s a fault, everyone has them.

Saw PFF grades for defensive units and it showed DL being pretty good, DBs being solid to good and LBs being really bad. The commentary was that this GT offense is very tough on LBs and they pretty much have to be perfect in the run game. Said run fits were the problem.
Link?

10 formation does call for that personnel group. But when the QB is a runner, you probably have to keep it as 4 DLs instead of 3 and cheat a safety up closer to the LBs. Otherwise, you're going 6 on 6 and the offense can outnumber you at the point of attack. I agree that this was a game where you had to trust your DBs to win 1-on1.
I wish they would stop running that 3-3-5 bullshvt.

Every player on the field could have called time out. It would have taken very big balls, but I wish Captain Seaton or Salter would have. If you can watch a full replay, CP looked totally lost then. The fact no assistants said anything is bad.

Also unlikely, but given his teammates and coaches consistent praise, I think Salter maybe was nervous and also just had a "bad day".
Salter does not have the mental game. He is the most clueless out there. You really don’t want your starting QB not understanding the game of football. Juju gets it. I’d start splitting time between qb’s to eventually lead Juju into starting. Let’s please not wait till next year to get him serious experience.

Coach Mac was a mediocre game coach. Recruiting, staff development and culture/ motivation/ development are all more important. But as the OP said, there needs to be a coach (or some staffer) advising on clock, timeouts, etc. I know in basketball there's a bench coach who tracks and advises the HC on that stuff (plus fouls situation in hoops) and who knows the analytics for the situation. Seems like a role the fb program should utilize.

We don’t run a 3-3-5. It’s more of a 4-2-5 if anything

Watch Cincinnati. They truly run the 3-3-5. It’s very noticeable and completely different from what most teams run.
Nickel is absolutely ubiquitous because so is 11 personnel on offense. Complaining about 3-3-5 shows an utter lack of understanding. If you have 3 DL and 3 LBs on the field and they're in 12 personnel that's a different story.

I would not say the 3-3-5 is the base defense for most teams. Not even close. Base nickel, yes but not base defense.
5 DBs absolutely is, because 11 personnel is. Again, complaining about 3-3-5 shows a lack of understanding of the game. And even with 4-2-5, half the time that 4th guy, while at the LOS, is standing up.

How do you classify the person on the LOS standing up? DE or OLB?

I fully agree with this. It's like they finally have some sort of real offense but the system has nothing to do with the capability of the playmakers we have.

That's the most frustrating part
This. Our OL looks solid. It also looks like we can now run the ball somewhat. Our best unit on the entire team is WR. Take all those variables and it’s not crazy at all to put Juju in and let him use his high IQ and hyper accurate arm to get the ball into the hands of our play makers.

If he doesn’t/won’t run, one could argue the two QBs behind him have better arms.

He hesitated a lot last night IMO. Tentative. Over thinking. I’d like to see him play with more abandonment
Even on the TD throw, it was painfully obvious that Taylor flashed open for a good 3 seconds before Salter saw him/decided to throw it. He also completely missed a wide open Brown on a crosser prior to that.

And don’t get me started on his horrific RPO reads.

Presser on this topic scared me. Clueless.
I’m dead serious when I ask could it be…

TBF our LBs are in no way, shape or form built for the GT offense. Their skill sets is suited for the rest of our schedule.

5 DB’s could be 4-2-5. And I also wasn’t complaining about the 3-3-5. Stance also doesn’t determine a formation lmao. Regardless, just because teams run nickel as much or more than their base defense, that doesn’t make it their base defense.

Are* but also agreed.

This is a great example of “wtf are you doing Robert Livingston”. Their passing game was a non factor, we’re getting blown up in the run game and we’re just trotting out two deep safeties.

I was irritated during the game…

Watching us on offense, I could see all 11 players on the screen most of the time.

When our defense was out there, we’d sometimes only have 5 guys in the box

There was too much matching personnel without ever making them prove they could throw it. Get 8 in the box. Force them to throw.
