2013-14 CU MBB SOS Watch (OOC & Pac-12 Opponents)

Does it matter that much? I figure one of those two teams are going to win the WCC, and I'm thinking its going to be Gonzaga.

In terms of where CU finishes in the RPI ranks it does. That's going to have a major impact on where CU gets seeded in the Dance.

Arkansas State got its 15th win in a 23pt route. Nice.

UT Martin continues to struggle, losing at home.

Oregon State beats Wazzu. Now 14-11 (6-7). It's starting to look like UA & ASU going to UO/OSU the final week is going to be a very tough time to catch that roadie versus earlier in the conference season.

'Cuse @ Duke is almost meaningless from an ACC standings perspective now. Duke is finishing 3rd or 4th (in a battle with UNC). UVA and Cuse have 1 ACC loss, Duke and UNC have 4.

The only "meaning" now in terms of national relevance is that the winner still has a good shot at a 1-seed in the Dance.

Does that increase the attention on the CU / UA game Saturday since the other game has 2 teams that already lost this week? Shine's off that one a bit.
I don't think so, I think people will still be very interested in the rematch. Atleast ESPN was showing the CU game in the same advertisement.

What the hell does Craig Robinson have to do to keep his job? Yeah most would've been fired by now but being First BIL has it's advantages I suppose.

I don't think that the Beavs can easily swallow his contract if they fired him. And, frankly, being an annual CBI or NIT team isn't really underperforming program expectations in Corvalis.

Yep. Craig has nearly saved his job again. If they make the NIT, there isn't a chance in hell he's fired. Winning record and CBI and he's very likely safe, even. Remember, this is a school that hasn't Danced for 23 years. Robinson's notoriety due to his family gives Beav bball a lot more publicity than they'd otherwise be getting. Ken Bone at Wazzu, however, has reached the end of the line IMO. Cougs have declined for 4 years now after Bennett's guys cleared out.

How many west coast teams have an annual Beltway trip?

USCB holds on despite a poor 2nd half to get its 17th win and stay with a game of UC Irvine for 1st place in the Big West.

CU should jump Gonzaga (lost at BYU), who were 1 spot ahead of the Buffs in the RPI.

We got the results we wanted tonight. Harvard wins on the road and VCU (right with us in RPI) fell at UMass.

It is underperforming history though from the perspective of many fans who remember the Ralph Miller days. While they have never been a super power, at one time, they were perceived as a better than decent basketball school

Saturday, February 22nd

CU hosts Arizona. 7pm. Keg. ESPN. 'Nuff Said.

Buffs come into today as #23 RPI.

Louisville @ Cincinnati. Go 'Ville. Cincy is #18 and well within range. CBS. On right now with Louisville leading at the half.

Wisconsin @ Iowa. Go Badgers. Iowa is AP #15 (and that's a big predictor of seeding) despite being #45 RPI. We'll jump the Hawkeyes for seed if they're not ranked. ESPN2 right now with Wisconsin up at half.

Oklahoma State hosts Texas Tech. Suddenly dangerous TTU and a reeling OSU at RPI 40. Let's go, Pokes. 11:30, ESPN3.

Georgia @ South Carolina. Dawgs need to keep grabbing wins, especially on the road to stay in the RPI 100 (#90). 11:30, ESPN3.

Baylor @ West Virginia. Bears (RPI 47) need this and WVU can be lights out at home. 11:30, ESPN3.

Elon at GA Southern. Elon (RPI 140) looks for its 17th win. 12:00, no tv.

Kansas State @ Oklahoma. Sooners are 1 spot behind us at RPI 24. Go EcoKats. 2pm, ESPN3.

Air Force hosts Nevada. Wolfpack seem to be falling off now. AFA has shown some life, but still RPI 250. Need wins. 2pm, no tv.

Washington @ Oregon State. #83 vs #81 RPI. We played Washington twice, so them winning would be slightly better for CU. 2pm, PACN.

UT Martin hosts SE Missouri State. UTM at #329. This could help a lot in getting them into the 200s. 3pm, no tv.

UCLA @ Stanford. Bruins need to give us some space in the standings over Furd (plus we played them twice). 4pm, ESPN2.

Wyoming @ CSU. Pokes need to stay Top 100 (RPI 76) and could maybe reach Top 50. And **** CSU. 4pm, ROOT.

Jackson State @ Grambling State. JSU absolutely must win this one. RPI 290. 4pm, no tv.

UCSB hosts CS Fullerton. UCSB has to keep winning. RPI 97. 5pm, no tv.

Kansas hosts Texas. Really big game for us. KU can play its way to a 1-seed (#1 RPI already). UT is 2 spots ahead of us at #21. 5:30, ESPNU.

Harvard at Princeton. Will a win ever get the Crimson into the Top 50 (#53). They simply can't lose another game. 6pm, ESPN3.

Arkansas State hosts Texas State. ASU looking for win 16 (RPI 157). Keep winning. 6:05, no tv.

SDSU at New Mexico. Lobos could help the Buffs out in this one with SDSU at RPI #19. 8pm, ESPN2.

Gonzaga @ San Diego. USD is one of those teams that can sneak up and steal some nice wins. Zags are RPI 26. 10pm, ESPN2.

I don't think empathized the CU game enough there, Nik!

This day is going very well so far.

Okie Lite, Baylor and Georgia all rolled to victory while Elon earned a close road win.

Nik ... as always a great gameday summation. It's good to know who we should be pulling for re CU's Dance bid and seeding. Huge rep.

However ... as someone who earned his basketball watching bones attending Princeton games during the Bill Bradley era (and whose older brother played football there) I just CAN'T root for Hahvahd over the Tigers. But nonetheless your rundown of the day's games and their significance are thorough and much appreciated.

And please tell Nikita hello for me ... and that I think she's really cute!
