Class ranks by average # of P5 offers (from 2012 on)

True, also true would be that twitter, facebook, hudl, rivals, scout, etc.. didn't exist and the when coaches asked for tape you had to send them a VHS copy. I am pretty sure the only publicity any highly regarded recruit got was USA Today, or SI plus the local paper that covered the high school.
Back in the day I wrote a hand written letter to every D-1 coach to let them know I was interested. I think there was 109, or so. Then sent VHS to everyone that was interested....what a pain in the ass, compared to today!

One of my longest friends since 6th grade was a Parade All American linebacker. Minimizing their accomplishments isn’t something very young elite players do.

You people are insufferable. My point was to comment on the success of the 2013 class--a bunch of lightly recruited players that should have been highly recruited--with the dichotomy of the 2008 class, which didn't amount to much. And you have to turn it into THIS IDIOT IS TRYING TO PROVE RANKINGS DON'T MEAN ANYTHING! The binary nature of your retort (why can't there be some grey area in any ****ing post?) is an example of why people that don't comment on online forums don't.

For some of us even vhs tapes weren't around. USA Today lol wish it would have been around

UPDATED to include 2021 (currently nine players are committed)...

I’ve been curious about the 2020 class, so I did a quick analysis on the on the average number of P5 offers per class from 2012 - 2020. I used the offers reported by 247 (not perfect), and my analysis was done fairly quickly but I’m sure it’s directional correct. I capped the number of offers used for my average at 10 (so one member of a class with 25 offers doesn’t distort the averages).

2012 - AVG 3.88 - Players with 10+ P5 offers Y. Wright, K. Crawley
2013 - 1.95 - None - Notable: S. Liufau (1), T. Thompson (6), P. Lindsay (1)
2014 - 1.5 - None - Notable: S. Fields (5)
2015 - 1.78 - None - Notable: Lynott (8), P. Carr (8)
2016 - 4.1 - Bisharat, Winfree, J. Huntley,
2017 - 4.66 - Moretti, KD Nixon, G. Polley, K. Ray, Viska Shenault, T. Lang, T. Lytle
2018 - 4.26 - I. Antwine, D. Smith
2019 - 4.15 - L. Shenault, J. Mangham, L. Murray Jr.
2020 - 6.54 - B. Lewis, B. Rice, J. Wray, C. Fauria, C. Lee, K. Miller, A. Clayton, C. Gonzalez, J. Berry, J. Harris
2021 - 3.88ish - E. Olsen

No commentary from me. I’ll let everyone else fight about this.

Added T. Woods since I just did the math yesterday.

Trusting the latest buzz on two key commits, things would look like... (I excluded the kicker and punter)

2012 - AVG 3.88 - Players with 10+ P5 offers Y. Wright, K. Crawley

2018 - 4.26 - I. Antwine, D. Smith
2019 - 4.15 - L. Shenault, J. Mangham, L. Murray Jr.
2020 - 6.54 - B. Lewis, B. Rice, J. Wray, C. Fauria, C. Lee, K. Miller, A. Clayton, C. Gonzalez, J. Berry, J. Harris
2021 - 4.32 - E. Olsen, K. Zachary, A. Walker

Positive spin: might be the third best class in the last decade.

Negative spin: the 2020 class is the minimum required to consistently be in bowl games, and this class is well below the 2020 class.

If the Buffs can land Zachary and Walker it gets better. Acceptable for this year. I’d still love to add to the OL, especially at tackle. Scary depth there.

MM utilized a lot of Jucos to make up for recruiting deficiencies. A lot of that 2016 team was Juco guys IIRC.

Witherspoon, Carrell and Laguda were the only JUCO guys on D. Chido, Thompson, Oliver, Olugbode, Tupou, Kafovalu, Drew Lewis, Gamboa, Moeller, McCartney, and Jimmie Gilbert were all HS recruits. That defense was just the rare combination of upper classmen with a ton of experience and had a solid DC. The fact that they had 4 NFL draft picks in the secondary, which allowed for an aggressive scheme up front also helped.

2022 should continue to improve as late offers will come in (and assuming we don't start taking reaches going forward)

About halfway through the class it seems like this class is on pace to be the 2nd best in the last decade, IMO.

Interesting stuff, thanks.

one other thing that's cool to see is how relatively intact the 2020 class still is, in spite of the proliferation of the transfer portal (also considering J Wray a net due to his brother coming here)...positive signs for the future with how this class is shaping up, with still room to improve

I read the recruiting thread at least weekly. Can’t be true.
