CU-UCLA Game Thread! Espn 2 5 PM MT

Kids want to play for winning programs. We are not a winning program. One winning season in 15 plus years doesnt cut it.
The previous coach, whose name I will not mention, was able to begin to turn recruiting around despite our record. Recruiting isn’t just about winning.

I think you’re missing the theme of my posts. All underclassmen should be getting significant run to get reps that we lost in the spring. We should be playing as many players as possible in order to get our players game snaps to build our roster depth. But, we won’t because our coaches have to win now. Except, in this year, we don’t have to win now. This is a chance to do something we never do and it’ll be business as usual (mediocrity).
LOSE AT ALL COSTS!!!!

Well I had a blast watching the buffs pull it out the other night and this year definitely matters to me. Pretty stupid take to say otherwise.
The take from manhattan is very logical from a fan perspective looking long term, along with a coaching and management perspective, assuming a horrible season doesn’t start the “fire HC” train.

Where I vehemently disagree, however, is that players do not give any ****s about letting young guys play just so the coaches can see who is a player and who is not. The players want to play, they aren’t looking at this season like an extension of Spring Camp, and the fastest way to create a ****ty culture and have players lose respect for the coaches and ultimately want out is to tell a better older player he needs to catch some bench in favor of a worse younger player.

I want us to try and win.

Dorrell isn't a salesman. If he is going to have any success recruiting, he's going to have to win some games. The roster right now is talented enough to be a middle of the road PAC 12 team and if we go out and win 3 or 4 games, that's going to be the perception of this program. Getting an extra win or two in a "lost year" may not feel significant, but it's the difference between Dorrell selling an average PAC-12 program vs him having to sell a bottom feeder.

The players who will be here next year won’t be upset that they got a chance to show what they can do on the field.

Also, there was already a ton of apathy toward CU football after Tucker left, but imagine trying to sell season tickets for this program in 2021 coming off a 1-5/2-4 type of season.

There has to be a balance, which is clearly what KD tried doing against UCLA, but there is zero chance he’s going to keep playing Lytle (for example) and risk losing a game he’s up 35-14.

If KD isn’t a salesman, then winning 3-4 games this year won’t help get better players.

We won 10 games with a staff full of non salesmen and ended up 8th in the PAC-12 in recruiting.

2nd in the league, 8th in recruiting.

Strangely enough, we went right back to being right where our recruit standards were in the league the following two seasons.

It’s as if y’all have just forgotten that we need to make recruiting a priority with ACs who are closers.

Lots of guys, including true frosh, got shuttled into the game last night. KD recommitted today to getting Lytle real snaps. I'd say he's doing a lot of what manhattan's wanting.

I agree with you that recruiting needs to be the priority and I hated the Dorrell hire for this reason. But he's the coach and that's not changing.

Also 8th in the league is better than 12th, which is where we were regularly recruiting before that season. That was the best class for quite a while, winning still makes a difference.

Great! I hope to see it.
I just want to see more B Rice. Dude flashes some viska like tackle breaking.

You’re right. Since we know what Will Sherman can do, time to sit him in favor of Senn or Lichetenhaun just to see what we have in those two.
You are misrepresenting my argument. This is a consistent pattern from you. I don’t know why I engage these with you.

You arguing with anyone and everyone about everything is a consistent pattern with you and your go-to rebuttal is that someone lacks reading comprehension or is misrepresenting you. If everyone lacks reading comprehension or misrepresents your arguments, perhaps it’s a you problem?

Agree to disagree. 2nd with a senior laden team creating an 8th place recruiting class is a major problem. Strangely we got similar results from better recruiters AFTER 5-7. It is not rocket science.

I believe our last coach had a charisma that was able to give him a bump as well as having a new staff and could sell early playing time to a poor program. I also believe KD was able to keep that class together, so kudos to him for that. I believe covid has hurt CU in not being able to bring kids to campus. The campus is a big selling point. Am I happy with the current class level, NO. I believe it needs to improve, I believe in a non-covid cycle KD builds on what MT did last year and at least pulls in the same level class. Only the future will prove that right or wrong.
Also, to note that 3 of our 4* kids that we got in the last cycle were recruited by coaches that are still on the staff.

No. This is your issue. YOU consistently misrepresent my positions, I clarify, and then you still misrepresent them. Good luck.

Haha saying the same thing again doesn’t make it correct. You have already told multiple people in this thread that THEY lack reading comprehension. Own it.

If you want to tell me where my example of Senn/Lictenhaun getting snaps over Sherman is misrepresenting your argument I am all ears.

I never said that an 8th place recruiting class was an acceptable effort following that season, merely that it was an improvement over where the same staff was able to recruit when they weren't winning. Even if that staff wasn't good enough at recruiting to capitalize, winning 10 games made selling the program easier. If you're going to suggest we need better recruiters on the staff, then you're not going to hear an argument from me.
