DC Search Including & beyond the 1st 4 Candidates

I'm predicting an announcement in the next week or so to the effect of, "Mike MacIntyre will be taking on the role of DC in addition to his head coaching duties. He felt that his current knowledge of both the defensive personnel and Pac-12 offenses make him the best option to fill the role." All a smokescreen to cover up the fact that no legitimate candidates were interested in the job.

0% that happens. Zero.

Are we hoping for a DC with PAC-12 recruiting ties or deep ties to Texas? I think the California, Arizona and Washington pipelines will take care of themselves when performance picks up but we desperately need a presence in Texas.

sigh if thats who it is... we might as well have kept baer...

No disrespect intended to Baer, but just really felt his perspective was a bad match for our conference (recognizing our talent as a given). He did ok against OCS, even improved our run defense a bit after CSU, but I had no faith in Conference with Baer. Just like in boxing, "styles make fights". Baer will likely do ok at UNLV all considered.

I remain optimistic about this hire because we have no where to go but up. Hate the wait, but still feel this ends well. We shall see.....

I mean that's like saying we lost to Vandy on the field this year. I don't recall seeing anything to indicate that we had serious interest in CP.

No, it's nothing like that dummy, they're in our conference and on our schedule. The better analogy is recruiting - if wazzu gets a stud RB,and we settle for some developmental player, it doesn't matter if we weren't recruiting the kid, it hurts us, we fall further behind.

Id be skeptical of that choice too. Big yawn with that selection, in my opinion. This hire should turn some heads and give us a jolt in recruiting and aggressiveness on D. Some of the names mentioned seem like people that aren't moving up in coaching but just move around. We need an up and coming dynamic guy.

Maybe Klune could be the guy.

Better version of Baer I guess? His defense at UVA was good last year, but man is the ACC **** compared to the P12.

I don't know. Color me pretty damn skeptical if he's the choice.

Dick LeBeau (wouldn't it be legendary to have a legend!)? (Of course, his head would probably explode seeing some of the errors college kids would make on the field.)

I think this DC search is brilliant. When is the last time that this fan base has had this much discussion and debate over a freaking Defensive Coordinator? Honestly, I never it gave it two thoughts before, but the coaching names that have been thrown around at least have me excited as a fan.

It is easy to toss out vitrol as fans. However, if I am sitting in the AD's office I would be happy with where this conversation is going. If we swung and missed at Durkin, Pendegrast, et al. and they go on to have stellar stops at their next opportunity, then we look like geniuses that we targeted them, back-when. If they go on to piss it all away we still look like heros for passing them over to the next guy. Brilliant.

The long and short of it is, there is no such thing as bad press. The fact that 8 guys on the internet have an opinion on the Buffs and their DC search is positive news. Let's face it, and I'll say it, Gary Barnett did not burn this program to the ground, Dan Hawkins burned this MF'r to the ground. We can argue about what has happened since the days of Big Mac. What matters today is that at lest a few still give a **** and have an opinion. If I was sitting in the AD's office I would be pleased with that progress for today.

CU is irrelevant. CU is a last place team in the best league in college football (that didn't take long). Let 'em talk. Let the haters hate. This team and program will always ride out the highs and lows of this sport. So bring on the next guy, bring on the one after him, and the one after him, and so on. It won't matter if Bill Parcels is our DC. If there are no fans here to watch, donate and care then it does not matter. This team will suck anyway. And if you are going to base whether you are a Buff fan based on who the next Defensive Coordinator hire is, then go f yourself. You are not a fan anyway. You f'n Nebraska transplant who has nothing better to do than stalk Buff fan sites disguised as a Buff. F you and your miserable f'n life.

Go BUFFS!!!

My guess now is Klune. Mac has definite ideas about schemes and is hiring to fit those. Can't see a big name like Pendergast coming in and being told what to do like an assistant DC. Klune will be great for recruiting and hopefully is a match for Mac. And if I were a young DC I wouldn't mind being tutored by assistant of the year as DC at Duke.

dick lebeau just quit the steelers. that means one thing and one thing only, he's our new dc!

Why would he be great for recruiting?

Not sure why people are turning to Clune as our fall back. 247 has no reported commits in his time with USU or Hawaii (while that isn't always 100% accurate, it's still pretty telling). Clune may have improved Hawaii's defense (still just 6.0 YPP to 5.7), but they regressed by .5 Turnovers/game, something this team is badly in need of a boost in. Also notable, he allowed CSU to score it's 2nd most all season (49) and 2-11 UNLV to score the most it had all season. Clune would be a huge risk in my opinion, a bigger risk than hiring a position coach at a big school that is a proven recruiter.

Based on what that USU scout guy said, I don't think we're going after him anyways, he only mentioned that WSU and Utah were going after him.

There is no chance whatsoever that we come out looking like geniuses in that scenario.
