Ladies and gentlemen, the Prime effect

So I was in Vegas last weekend and wore a Buffs hat the whole time. Among the 69,420 comments I got on it and Coach Prime (including from a casino employee who played high school football with Mike Pritchard), one that jumped out was my Uber driver, he was probably mid twenties, said "have you been a Colorado fan or did you just get the hat because of Deion?" I asked him who his team was, and he said he doesn't really follow sports that much. I knew there would be a massive marketing boon and revenue offset on Coach Prime's salary from this hiring, but the extent it's gone to so quickly is wild. It's crazy to think we're at a place, not even two weeks into this deal, without a snap taking place, without Coach Prime even being here full time yet, where we're already viewed as a cool school nationally with fair-weather fans buying up our gear to the extent that it's being talked about by a young Uber driver in Las Vegas who doesn't even like football.

If this is a dream, I don't want to wake up.

I walked into Total Wine the other day wearing a CU hat and one of the managers immediately asked me how we're gonna do with coach Prime, then the guy checking me out also asked me about it. He was a Jackson State grad.
 
Not sure where else to put this but my favorite haters line is “well Prime is only winning because he has superior talent. Let’s see how he does when it’s more balanced.”

And it’s like mother****er how do you *think* CFB works? Do you think Alabama is in the CFP every year because Saban is the worlds best tactical football mind? It’s just a coincidence that he has a top 3 recruiting class every year?

if Prime can get 4* to JSU, CU is going to have superior talent.

Saban's career without superior talent:

1990 Toledo: 9-2
1995-99 Michigan State: 34-24-1
2000 (Yr1) LSU: 8-4
2005-06 Dolphins: 15-17
2007 (Yr1) Alabama: 7-6
TOTAL: 73-53-1 (0.5787 win pct)

I don't think I need to run the numbers from his other seasons with superior talent to make the point.

I think there’s at least some merit to that argument though. Basically, he’s recruiting P5 talent to an FCS program, which is amazing, but the discrepancy is hugely in favor of JSU in the SWAC. At CU, he’s going to have to recruit top 5 classes to have a similar talent discrepancy. The haters are betting that he can’t do that at CU

Part way through the exchange i noticed he had a 303 number. Asked if he was from Colorado and if he went to CU. He said yes from CO, no didn’t go to CU but casually follows. So he asked me about Sanders and we started text chatting about the Prime effect, upgraded merch, recruits, more locals becoming fans, etc. He ended the conversation with, “anyway sir, back to business, security forces have subdued the suspect, he is custody, no weapon found.” Its wild!

I know Prime wants to win now and a lot and I'm sure his goal is a Natty. I've been a Buff fan for so long I'd be happy with consistent bowl games etc...
 
Some of you know that I am highly addicted to golf. A group of guys that create golf content (No Laying Up) sent out their end of year newsletter. It includes a look ahead to what they have planned for 2023, and ended with “we don’t know what to expect, but “we’re comin” with a link to a Prime video. The Prime effect is widespread indeed.

Only so many times you can watch Christmas Vacation with the in-laws.

Just opened a bottle of Buffalo Trace and forcing my brother in law to drink with me while I explain to him why CU’s future is brighter than Wisconsin’s and their dog**** 62nd ranked recruiting class (99th transfer rank).

One major factor some of you aren't counting-all of these kids still play Madden. ****, so do I. Prime's face is all over the game's loading screen right now. His fame is still very real.

I will say this-one thing I didn't grasp until he got here was how competitive Prime really is. Knew he was the only guy who had ever played in a Super Bowl and World Series and what a ridiculously good athlete he was......but what he's done since he's been here is ridiculous to at least me. He was a Cowboy when I lived down there-but there was so much for the media with that 1995 team and he was so new that he somehow got overshadowed. Deion Sanders pulled a top 25 class in during a transition year while trying to coach his JSU team's bowl game (which very few people even do nowadays). I'm sure Prime was trolling somebody with the video Barstool posted the other day (could be FSU, could even be Nebraska, who knows).......but there's a little bit of a message for the entire sport there-Something like I pulled in a top 25 class in a transition year. Watch what's next.


This is going to be one hell of a ride.
 
I've seen info on how Coach Prime has impacted CU social sites and such. I'm curious how it's impacted AllBuffs - are there metrics on traffic and/or # of message posts leading up to and post hire? I can't keep up with all the football and football recruiting posts anymore.
