Official 2025 Opening Week - Georgia Tech Thread

I guess we'll never know, because Pat and Prime seem not to think we can.

I'm confident that Salter will throw the ball 30 yards downfield on 3rd and 2 if the first down is right there for the taking with his feet.

Hopefully, he'll make better decisions in the future. Prime's post game comments show that he saw what we saw. Prime clearly wants him to run.

That game from 2 was way better. We got what we wanted against Tech
I don't know about way better. There was a lot of taking bad, long sacks in that game, and the pick 6, and some uncharacteristic inaccurate misses early on that allowed Nebraska to salt it away in the second half when Shedeur was finally good, but not great.

Anyway, in regards to this year, I think the comparison is that hopefully it's also one of Kaidon's worst games of the year.

In Kaidon's favor, he did move in the pocket really well, he did avoid big sacks, and he didn't turn the ball over, and he made a few nice plays. He just didn't cash in on a few key opportunities, the weird lollypop throw to Price when he was wide open but that ended up being a TD , uncorking the prayer to the end zone from midfield on the second drive, missing DeKalon on a key 3rd down late, some really questionable read option decisions.

It was not just about the time on the clock for the last 2 plays, its about having the time to catch your breath, talk to Salter, organize the WR’s, etc. Call the timeout, and know you at least have the right play called and everyone can run it. Big mistake, but CP is still the best possible coach for us. Shurmur has failed us

Anyone see Salter dancing to a hip hop song during the game, just moments before the play? That pissed me off.

I think Juju should play most of the Delaware game! The OL impressed me the most, and we can run the ball. Quick accurate passing would be effective.

He missed a lot of reads, a lot of throws, should have ran the ball at least 5 more times than he did. Bro was ass. Shedeur wasn't ass against Nebraska. We were ass against Nebraska. Salter was ass last night.

Shedeur in a CU uniform would have dominated last nights game. He never looked bad with us as Salter did last night.

We all knew we'd miss Hill-Green and Colton Hood, but it was particularly evident last night. Could have used Hill-Green's downhill run gap filling and Hood in coverage. Couple costly drive extending penalties from corners who probably wouldn't have been out there if Hood was still here.
I thought the guy we really missed was CSC, but yeah.

The time-outs were so annoying especially after salter ran for 8 seconds after getting the first smh. Shurmur called a decent game but salter missed on a couple throws, didn't run the few yards and didn't get the easy first or TD in the moment. I think he'll get there. He has to.

I was at the game. GT was a well-coached, high quality opponent that may make some noise in the ACC. CU was overmatched against GT’s run game, yet we were able to stay in the game for four quarters.

There are certainly a few areas for improvement on both sides of the ball. But I came away from the game thinking that this team has potential. I got the sense that we will see this particular squad play its best football of the season in November. Not every team does that, but hopefully this team will.

I’m certainly not in panic mode. When I was driving up to Boulder the radio guys were a bit apprehensive about our, I don’t know, inexperience playing together. We have a lot of new faces.

Garry B. talked about how it takes time to make a change in offensive philosophy from pass first to run first. So before the game he was concerned about that.

After sleeping on things.

While salter isn't great, he isn't horrible either. He did not lose the game for us, but he definitely didnt win it for us. His lack of touch on his passes and his accuracy being his biggest skill weaknesses. Still not sure why he didnt run the ball when he could, maybe that can be improved upon if the coaches push him.

Our OL is much improved as well as our run game.

Its difficult to judge our wr's with the play calling and inaccurate passing, but i am confident they can be play makers.

Overall, a C-, but i feel this unit can play better.

Defense, oof.

The best that can be said is that against the pass, we were decent. Not dominant, but not horrible...but we were horrible against the run. And not just only when the QB ran.

Our LBs provide no help it seems, on either run or pass protection.

DL was average, and would be ranked lower if not for decent pass pro.

CB play was average to decent. Safety play at best average.

Overall, the defense played at a D- and imo the biggest reason for that is poor LB play. Elevate that and this defense can improve as a whole!

At least we are able to kick the ball into the end zone on kick offs, so that is nice. Punter seemed decent.

I feel we lost this game not so much because our players lack skills, but because of coaching. Ultimately it comes down to Prime to fix. We have seen him make mid season changes before when things were not working out, so I am not totally down on the season yet.

My biggest areas I would like to see changes are LB play, play calling, clock management, and getting Salter to play to his strengths(or bring in Juju if he is ready). This team can be better than they showed last nite.

I think Prime is pissed at Shurmur, he was holding back in post-game comments. He knows Juju is more important to the future and Shurmur cannot cause problems with the big picture

PFF just release the grades and our LBs got crushed. Shaun Meyers was well graded tho
I don't like their alignment presnap. A bit too close to the LOS, which makes it harder to diagnose & play downhill.

Lots of problems with fits and gap leverage/discipline from the front 7 in general. Hat tip to GT's OL, but it is also pretty clear that one of the problems with the modern era is that they don't hit and go live enough during training camp. GT, based on its scheme and identity, looked like they had a more physical camp and was better prepared for that sort of game.

I thought they played the way they looked on tape. Just wasn't good enough

Was there last night, tough loss, but not devastating. First game, lots of discovery on the field and the sideline. Obviously, their QB just killed us as did their overall running game. We knew coming in they’re a strong running team. They seemed more at ease in their offense. Don’t understand not using the timeouts on the last drive. Hopefully we’ll bounce back against the mighty Blue Hens, though I don’t think any game is a gimme.

CP stated in his presser that a major factor was that GT was more 'aggressive and physical' than the Buffs.

I have trouble understanding that. He's wasn't saying they are more talented, better athletes - it's that they wanted it more and fought for what they wanted.

Again, I wonder if all these nfl HOF coaches understand how to motivate and get college kids ready. They know the Xs and Os, but fail in this regard.

We struggled stopping the run-and that bit us last year. KU and KSU both got us because we couldn't stop either on the ground.

As far as next week......Salter should start. JuJu is still 17. In an ideal world, we jump on the fighting Blue Hens and JuJu plays most of the 2nd half.

on the plus side, clean things up and the team is probably top 3 in talent in the ****ty big 12. so it should still be a fun season.

You can't coach desire

Other random notes:

Quency Wiggins seemed to play a lot and played well. If he emerges that will help
The edge group seemed to not be as active as last year. I feel like they were teeing off on the QB in ‘24.
Dekaylon is legit in the open field. He’s gonna break a couple long TD’s this year.
Atkins looked athletic at TE
Was it just me or were guys shying contact and running out of bounds early when they could have easily gained more yardage?

You graded the defense too high.

Welch ran out of bounds once when he could have gotten an extra yard or two and smashed a dude. It felt out of character.

Wasn't just you, they were doing exactly that
