2025 Transfer Portal News & Updates

There's a story out there that Mendoza called this kid to tell him he was staying at Cal and not to bother coming to Berkeley, despite intending to transfer all along.

Apparently to spite Wilcox, whom Mendoza apparently hates.

You were dead-on here. Sagapolutele committed to Cal today. Amazing how fast and flexible some of these guys are moving.

Rashada is already moving on from GA. I was curious as to why he was not more in the QB conversation at GA. Pre-playoff's, Stocken played decent in very limited time, but Rashada had nearly as many Div1 snaps at ASU showing flashes of good and bad... I sort of feel for JR, as it looks like he was screwed at FL, however each guy has to find their path.

CU essentially switched transfer centers this morning. . . per On3 they are ranked nearly equal. I understand if Miller was recruited by Loadholt and he ends up there or someplace else.

I know NIL is alive and well, but a path to playing time (maybe more NIL down the road) appears to be of equal if not more importance. I think the NFL dream is alive in a bunch of players, whether they can make it or not. This recruiting and transfer period will only be more fluid, now and into the Spring portal. On the surface, it seems that some kids want to play rather than compete.

Talked to a buddy who has some connections at Texas Tech. I asked him what is driving TTU all of a sudden being a major NIL player. He said that it was their pro players rallying and leading things, specifically Mahomes and Welker. Mahomes even gave a million bucks specifically to make the softball team elite.

To Messrs. Derrick White and Cody Williams....

I'm higher on Salter after seeing he was a Top 100 Recruit out of HS to Tenn. I expect he wins the QB1 roll easily in 2025 and we will look way different with a much higher Run / Pass ratio. Although it's going to be a lot more QB runs.

There’s also the O&G bros who are TTU alums who sold their company for a few bill who have pledged major sums.

His high school rating made you see him differently?

After a few years of mostly excellent QB play at Liberty...his high school rating...made you like him more?

I think when looking at lower level guys who’ve had success there is a bit of a gamble and wait and see mindset that it will translate to the P4 level. Knowing that Salter was evaluated as a blue chip talent coming out and went to Tennessee brings a little bit more confidence that the blue chip talent is, in fact, there but needed a few years and a different situation to come to fruition.

I wonder what the future is for HS recruiting. I think that where I'm leaning is that the top programs will become increasingly selective. They'll go hard after the guys who are obviously ready to contribute on this stage as a freshman, but I think they'll increasingly let everyone else prove themselves in the "minor leagues" first and then call them up to the show via the portal. Considering that most recruiting classes never returned even a 50% success rate of eventual starters, I could definitely see the norm being for CU and others on our level only signing 10-15 preps per year.

I think the Dabo types will try to skew aggressively to keeping guys around for multiple years and doing the development in house.

Their whole theory is the case is you need to instill culture and get everyone on the same page, etc.

Thinking about it, they've sort of got the mindset of cult leaders.

I think the rules will dictate what is viable. Right now it's so wide open that Dabo, Cignetti, Smart, Prime, and Kiffin can all have theories of the case that are all over the range of possibilities and each are finding success.

Is there any kind of Colorado JUCO that we could create a partnership to place recruits? Pay them while they are there, make that JUCO really good, and then bring them back up to CU with fresh eligibility

Nope. Everything in CO below D1 is in the RMAC as D2 football. No JUCOs. Pretty much all the JUCOs are in IA, KS, MS, CA and TX.
