You'll get used to it.
I was spoiled going from Howard Schnellenberger to Jimmy Johnson and had Don Shula as a fixture. When I got to CU McCartney will still there. In that era between 1980 to 1995 I watched my teams play in numerous mNC games and a Super Bowl.
Since then its been a disaster. CU went from Mac to Neu. Neu to Barnett. Barnett to Hawkins. Hawkins to Embree. Embree to MacIntyre. MacIntyre to Tucker. And now Tucker to Vacant. I cant even name all the coaches the Dolphins or The U have had.
The tenures keep getting shorter. The piles of money keep getting higher. At some point the amateur athlete and the mission of education seem to stray.
Once children entered my life and I started taking them skiing, coaching them in their respective sports, etc my Saturdays became spoken for and it became easy to let go.
Money has diminishing utility the more you make. Doubing one's salary from 50k to 100k makes a much larger impact than doubling from 2.7 million to 5 million. Money does buy happiness but only up until a certain point.I’m so sick of people who will never see one million dollars talk about how they’d turn down $18 million more to take a job with more favorable conditions for his direct employees...

Nope. $18 million is generation changing money. He’s getting $5.5mm for six years with a mega AC budget. If it were just the extra $18 million, that’s one thing. A top 7 AC budget is a game changer in this sport.Money has diminishing utility the more you make. Totally agreed. I’m still not mad at him because he received the kind of deal that’s impossible to refuse. There is still a better way to handle the situation...regardless of salary. He handled it about as poorly as one could.
Tell that to Slick Rick too. Would we have won the 2001 Big 12 title with Slick Rick whose heart might not have been into being the CU head coach?
On a positive side, after Slick Rick left, we got Gary Barnett. That led us to one Big 12 title and four North division championships. Perhaps the next head coach will get us out of the funk CU football has been in since 2005.
That's some projecting, there. I though we all were millionaires. I must be hanging out with the wrong crowd.I’m so sick of people who will never see one million dollars talk about how they’d turn down $18 million more to take a job with more favorable conditions for his direct employees...
Let's hope. I'm hopeful. It still sucks to be jilted. Again, I don't blame anyone for bettering theirs and their families situation...but if you preach integrity, practice it in how you do things, otherwise your message rings hollow.
I'm not sure though that the AC pay bump is necessarily him getting favorable conditions for his employees, or just making his job easier by getting better ACs.I’m so sick of people who will never see one million dollars talk about how they’d turn down $18 million more to take a job with more favorable conditions for his direct employees...

Just wait until Michigan State struggles at some point. It will be a big dumpster fire there. How did things turn out for Wake Forest with Bdzelik and CU with Boyle.
Bdzelik was able to get CU to build the basketball practice facility and Tucker might be leaving a similar outcome for football.
I think that’s semantic. But yesI'm not sure though that the AC pay bump is necessarily him getting favorable conditions for his employees, or just making his job easier by getting better ACs.
I don’t view him benevolently. He wants to win. More money for assistants is a major correlation to success in this sport.C'mon man. It's fair to say MSU's offer was so much of a raise that no one would refuse it (I disagree with it but it is fair to say). But let's not cast Tucker as some benevolent direct supervisor looking out for his direct reports. Most of his direct reports here will not be invited to join him. And then there are the players, a different type of direct reports, who he dicked over on his way out the door. (Again, it is fair to say "anyone would have done it," but we can't really argue whether he dicked over the players, especially the 2020 class.)
I think you may be trying to say that part of Tucker's motivation was more money to retain better direct reports. That's probably true and a different sentiment than "to take a job with more favorable conditions for his direct reports."
Just an aside; every time I see your avatar I've wondered how you were doing. Apparently that's been six years - wow. Hard to imagine what you had to go through - really glad to hear you've survived an unspeakable tragedy and are happy now...Like I said, I'm hopeful and honestly feel that CU will be fine in the long run. It still sucks how it went down.
For example, my first wife and biological mother to my children died in her sleep almost 6 years ago, leaving me with 12 day old twins still in the NICU and an almost 2 year old boy. I've since remarried to a wonderful woman who is an amazing wife and mother. Am I happy that my first love and my children's mother had to die in order for my life to look like it does today? Heck no. It sucked and I wish it didn't happen. Am I happy now? Yes!
Yesterday can suck and sting for quite a long time at the same time we can be hopeful for good things ahead.

I think the press conference happened when he realized that with great reward comes great responsibility. He was diving in the Scrooge McDuck bank vault in his mind until reality hit that he's got a lot of work ahead of him. The expectations were raised more exponentially than the money. As with most jobs, there’s a good time to leave and a bad time to leave. Not everyone cares about leaving at the right time anymore, but many people still do. He might’ve been able to salvage relationships had he just stayed quiet and/or cooled on the fundraising trips or promises to 17-18 year olds in the last few days. You can choose to chase money, but act with some integrity on the way out.
Anyway, I’m sure he regrets how he handled it, as was evident with how poorly his introductory press conference went. I’m sure he’ll move on and be fine in the long run, as will the Buffs.
I read the same thing. Douche! Now he’s pushing Sarkisian on the Buffs. Apparently being discussed now.Hate Saban even more now! Stay in your lane! May you get your a** rolled every year by Clemson and LSU! Karma!
